A guide to the differences in Wave 1 to Wave 2 and on.

Wave 1 : Ranger 1-008C

Here we are again, with an easy card to distinguish whether it is Wave 1 or Wave 2. I present to you your Standard Unit Ranger.

But, first let me give you the links to these 2 guides.

First off you’ll say, these 2 just look the same, as all Opus I cards do. If you take a closer look, you can spot the difference. Take a look at the colon right after the Dull symbol.

Do you see where it is placed on both cards? One is lower than the other. And, if you said that that one is the Wave 1 card, you are right.

Now that we know that we have 2 different Waves on our hands, let’s take a closer look at the cards and spot some more, differences to help us with the other cards that don’t have a sure way to tell if it is either Wave 1 or Wave 2.

If you take a look at the Green coloring on the shirt and hat, you can can see that the Wave 1 Ranger is duller than the Wave 2. And, the Wave 2 is a different shade of green as well. More like a Forest Green if you ask me.

Wave 1 : Gadot 1-007R

Next up on the Wave 1 list is Gadot. Gadot is an easy one as well, following in the footsteps of Garland, and Auron. It’s the background image once again. But, before we get to that, let me give you a couple of links to guides that will help you on your journey, of Opus I Wave 1 cards.

As you can see in the background image of Gadot the Wave 1 image is a bit more transparent than the Wave 2 version. As always Wave 1 is on the left, Wave 2 is on the right.

As you can see Wave 1 Gadot has a reddish tint from the red on the card, while the Wave 2 has a slight grey tint.

There is also a small difference in the Crystals. Even side by side it is hard to tell the difference, but it’s there. We’re not even talking about the placement but the shade of the red used. The Wave 2 Gadot has a darker Crystal.

Wave 1 : Garland – 1-006H

Garland is here, with another easy one to figure out. All you got to do is remember transparency is key. For some of the cards at least. But first, let me post these two guides.

We have 2 specimens here, both are Garland, both are Heroes, and both are good looking cards. But, which one is which? Garland Left or Garland Right? Let’s take a look.

If you said right is Wave 1 you are wrong. Left is right. I mean Wave 1. Don’t mean to confuse you there.

A closer look shows us the transparency in the background image.

As you can see on both sides of the card, Garland’s image n the background is more transparent. And sometimes, it’s just that easy.

Wave 1 : Ifrit EX (1-004C)

It’s time to turn the heat up with Ifrit, because Ifrit EX, has no sure signs of pointing out which Wave Ifrit is. So, we’ll have to look at the two guides below to help us out. Let me go ahead and give you the links from the guides from the introduction post that will help you guide your way.

They both look the same, don’t they?


But, there is tiny differences that we can point out. The Crystal being the first one. The one on the Wave 1 is closer to the top edge than the Wave 2 Ifrit. Also, the colors on the card are a little different as well. Ifrit’s body has a lighter shade for Wave 1 and darker for Wave 2.

And, lastly the Category box. If you look closely you can see the shading of the blue color, Wave 1 has a white tint, while Wave 2 looks like it has a purple tint.

Wave 1 – Red Mage – 1-003C

Red Mage (1-003C) is one of the easier card to distinguish between Wave 1 and Wave 2. But first, let me give you the links from the guides from the introduction post that will help you guide your way.

All you have to do is look at Red Mage’s Colon. And, if you look at his face you’ll see that he is not excited about that.

Which one is which? If you check the colon right after the cost to pay for the ability you can see that the one on the left is lower than the one on the right. It’s that little detail that shows up on all the cards that have an ability with a cost.

And if you look closer, you can see that Red Mage’s hair is lighter in Wave 1 and darker in Wave 2.
