Good Problems

It’s been a wild week at the shop! We’ve been steadily restocking our TCGPlayer and eBay stores, but I’ve noticed a pattern: as soon as the “List” button is hit, the cards are out the door within 24 hours.

It’s a “good” problem to have, but it means our stock is thinning out fast! If you see something you need for your deck, don’t wait—it probably won’t be there tomorrow.

The Road to Dreamlike Oceans

We are officially on the countdown to Opus XXVIII: Dreamlike Oceans next month! You know what that means: Midnight Prerelease is coming.

We’ve been running these since Opus XIV: Crystal Abyss, and the tradition remains the same. If you’re new to the crew, just know two things:

  1. You’ll have a shot at winning a kit.

  2. Pack your energy drinks—we usually go until at least 3:00 AM. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, but it’s always a blast.

Spoiler Season: Is that Snow or “Dirty Dom”?

Square Enix kicked off spoiler season with Snow (28-031L), and I have to ask… is it just me, or does he look exactly like “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio? All he’s missing is the mustache.

Wrestling comparisons aside, let’s look at the math on this card. Snow is a CP, Power Forward with a versatile “Choose 2” auto-ability on entry:

  • Dull/Freeze a Character.

  • Search/Filter: Reveal top 2, add an FFXIII Character to hand. The rest go to the Break Zone.

  • CP Reduction: Your next FFXIII card costs CP less.

The Strategy: If you reveal a card to add to your hand and then use the CP reduction, Snow effectively only costs you CP. For an 8k “Meat Shield” with the Sentinel keyword, that is incredible value. He’s a true tank—he’s there to soak up the pressure while you set up your win con.

Flea Market Finds: Elfen Lied

The Wednesday flea market run actually paid off this week! I stumbled across the complete series of Elfen Lied.

If you aren’t familiar, it’s a darker, cult-classic anime from the early 2000s—definitely for a mature audience. It’s a short 13-episode run, and finding the physical DVDs in the wild is becoming rarer these days. I’ll be “sacrificing” my evening to watch through them tonight just to “ensure the discs work perfectly.” (Any excuse to rewatch a classic, right?)

Got Bulk?

What a Prerelease we had!

Midnight Prerelease to be exact, we had an 8 element deck come in in second. Which is surprising. If they had gotten that Gra’ha Tia, he might have pulled the ability to end all games.

No Terra was pulled that night, so that means that there still is a chance that she is in one of the remaining Pre-Release Kits that we have. It’s a slim chance, but it’s there.

I also noticed that there were some Full Arts that had double copies in each case of twelve. If anyone is interested in that information, well now you have it.

Finally finished the MTG Bulk that we had gotten. All that is left is to build lots of 1000 cards. We’re doing no duplicate lots. with no basic lands. Some lands like Barren Moor might still be in there.

We’ll have the new sleeves up by tonight, and look out for Journey of Discovery Booster Boxes going up sometime this week.

Just got off the phone with my distributor, and the Kits should be arriving tomorrow. Or the day after. That means, we’ll be doing an unboxing video like we always do. We should get more consistent on videos, but then we think how many times do people want to see us opening the same product?

We just got an invite to Oak Lawn Public Library’s Fan Fest once again. We got to see if we can make it though, due to Soccer in the spring. I’ll need to check on the dates ASAP.

We’ll also be getting the missing sleeves from our order, along with some Warrior of Light Promos, that we will be giving out at Midnight Prerelease, so if you needed another reason to make it, you got one now.

We’ll have the Prerelease Kits up for sale, right after our Midnight Prerelease, we just need to make sure we have enough for our players first.

Still going through all the MTG bulk, hoping to get it all done by this Friday.

Worked through most of 2017 MTG Bulk. Getting closer to the end, but I know all the 2018 cards are about half of the bulk cards that we bought. That one is going to be fun going through.

Also spent a good hour looking for a card that we sold, and was misplaced. That’s always great. That is another fun project that we’ll be undertaking soon. We got to organize all the cards. Most of it is organized, but there’s maybe 20k-30k cards that aren’t listed that need to be grouped together.

We also officially anounced Midnight Pre-Release for Journey of Discovery, that will be next Friday.

The kids didn’t want to play 99 Nights in the Forest, but they found a similar game called 99 Nights in the Arctic. It’s pretty much the same game where you have to survive. There’s more weapons to use, and we just had a fun time, no strategy, just run around find weapons, save the kids and keep on going.

I didn’t feel like going through the Magic Bulk today. So, I restocked Opus XIX – From Nightmares on TCG Player and eBay. I just had to look at something different today. I’m surprised how much some of these cards went up. That’s what we like to call Supply and Demand, and there sure was demand for them, cause some of those singles are already out the door.

But, I finished with that fairly quick, so I started sorting MTG Bulk. I just can’t get away from them sometimes, and other times, I can’t get any. It’s always like that, you either have too much or too little. I prefer too much, that way it’ll keep me busy for days to come.

Also listed some MTG Bulk lots on eBay. Might get some on here as well.

I tried organizing the office again, that will always be a work in progress.

Stay tuned for information regarding Journey of Discovery Midnight Pre-Release!
