Wave 1 – Auron – 1-002R

It’s been a while since we did this, but we’re back at it, with card number 2-002R. Before we start let me give you the links from the guides from the introduction post that will help you guide your way.

“Distinguishing Final Fantasy TCG Opus 1 Wave 1 from Future Waves”

“Differences in Opus I Wave 1 Printing vs Later Waves”

Auron (2-002R), is very easy to distinguish Wave 1 from Wave 2. Especially if you have them side by side. Let’s take a quick look at the cards. Can you tell which one is which?

All you need to do is look at the background picture. The transparency between the two is very noticeable. Wave 1 Auron looks more like the background color of the card, while Wave 2 has a bit of skin coloring. Which you can see better in this picture.

Site Update – 02/20/2023

We finally finished adding Opus I to the Site. Not only Opus I, but the new Boss Deck Singles as well. It took us longer than expected, but we hunkered down during the Weekend and just finished it up before you can say Kardboard Korner.

It was a tough process as we were trying to filter out all the Wave 1 cards. Some are easy to spot while others are a bit harder. And, others … well it’s hard to see which cards are Wave 1 or Wave 2 when you don’t have any Wave 1 cards, and you’re trying to figure out which one is Wave 1 out of a whole bunch of Wave 2 cards.

We shall restart working on our Wave 1 guide once again. With better knowledge on what we’re doing.

We’ll still say that we are not 100% sure on some cards, but will say we are close to 95% sure. If you see something wrong, please let us know so we can fix it and help everyone distinguish Wave 1 cards.

I’ll leave you off with these guides here as they are super helpful.

Yes, every time we mention Wave 1 we will be posting these links.

Site Update 02/13/2023

It’s been busy around here behind the scenes.

We’ve been trying to separate all of our Opus I cards between Wave 1 and Wave 2. Some cards are real easy to distinguish the differences, others are just the same image with just tiny differences that half the time you’re not even sure what you’re looking at.

Luckily there are a couple of guides. I posted them on some previous Wave 1 posts and I’ll keep posting them on every Wave 1 post. I’ll just go ahead and post them here once again.

Now we’ve slowly been adding Opus I singles to the site. We finished Fire, Ice and Wind, and are currently working on Earth. Take a look and pick some up.

The Final Fantasy XIII Custom Starter Deck is right around the corner. We’ll be taking Pre-orders soon. We’ll be shipping them out as soon as they come in, so you can get them as close to release date as possible.

Other than that, we’re going to be finishing these Wave 1 Singles for a while.

Wave 1 – Auron – 1-001H

Starting off right at the beginning. This one is not confirmed, but my personal opinion. I noticed this by looking at a graded Wave 1 Foil. The foil pattern is different between the 2 Waves. Here are the two guides from the introduction post that will help you guide your way.

If you look closely, you can tell that the colors on the cards are a little different. The Wave 1 card looks a little dull compared to Wave 2 which is more vibrant.

Wave 1 is on the left, and Wave 2 is on the right.

First off, I noticed that the whole card is moved up, not just the Crystal. If you take a look at Auron’s boot there is more showing than what is on the Wave 2 card.

Something else I also noticed, but is not consistent on Wave 2 cards. Could be the difference between Wave 2 and Wave 3. There is a little, let’s call it a, blob on the left side of the card. Could just be a printing error, but it is something I noticed when I was studying the cards.

Introduction to Opus I – Wave 1

I would have written a quick guide myself, but there are already a couple of people that have done so, and probably did a better job at it than I would have been able to.

They both cover the same things and for most of the cards these guides will help you determine if you have a Wave 1 or Wave 2 card on your hands.

First one is from Stephen Bongner. He is the Administrator of the FFTCG Marketplace on Facebook. Plenty of knowledge on the game and cards. He created the “Distinguishing Final Fantasy TCG Opus 1 Wave 1 from Future Waves” guide and you can find it here.

Second one is from Conkwe, who runs the FFTCG Boards. I have been going these boards for since Opus VI. Other than his guide on Wave 1 differences, he shares lists of Errata, Promo cards and Variants, and is always a good place to check out. His Wave 1 guide “Differences in Opus I Wave 1 Printing vs Later Waves” can be found here.

These 2 guides are a great place to start figuring out the differences. I hope you find these guides as helpful as I have found them.
