Fire of Discovery

27-001R – Auron

Auron is sitting in your back line ready to boost one of your Forwards.

Yes, that Forward need to be blocking an attack, in order for him to get the buff. And, that also means that after you declare the block, your opponent has to do something in order for you to be able to use Auron’s ability.

When all that is said and done, Auron will give your Forward a 7000 power buff to help him block your opponent’s attack.

Hopefully you’ll break that Forward.

27-002H – Ifrit EX

For 1CP, this is a great card. I’ll take 3, and from the looks of it, I sense a Full Art. If there is no Full Art we will riot!

Choose a Forward deal it 5000 damage.

If you choose to pay the extra cost of removing an Ifrit from your Break Zone deal it 8000 damage instead.

What’s not to like. I’m sure you’ll have plenty of Ifrit’s that have been summoned, with nothing to do, but wait for the game to end so they can be summoned again.

Can’t go wrong with 1CP.

And, something tells me we’re getting 1CP Hero Summons for all Elements. And, they’ll all be from Final Fantasy III.

27-003C – Viper

Lots of Final Fantasy XIV support this set. Well, what else would you think? Journey of Discovery has Krile on the box.

Viper comes in for 3CP, and deals a Forward 3000 damage.

Now if you got a Multi-Element Forward on the field, that damage becomes 7000.

After that Viper sticks around as a Meat Shield. He might even attack.

27-004C -Ace

In and out. That’s what Ace’s job is.

Ace comes in and deals 9000 damage to one of your opponent’s Forwards.

And, if that’s not enough, you can use Ace’s ability to deal 5000 damage to a Forward as well.
Yes Ace costs 6CP.

And, that is all I have to say about this card. You might be better off with a Monster that does something similar.

27-005R – Guy

Ready to bulk up your front line?

Guy is ready.

When Guy enters the field, you will play one Forward from your hand onto the field. Up to 2CP. And, it doesn’t have to be a Fire Forward, it can be any element.

That’s 2 for Tuesday, even though it’s Wednesday today.

And, that is not all, at the end of each of your turns, if you have 4 Forwards on the field, Guy will draw you a card.

Guy will keep on giving for as long as he is on the field, and at 7000 power, your opponent might have a little bit of trouble getting rid of him.

I can see all Fire decks, having at least one.

27-006R – Chaos Advent

Chaos Advent shines when he is put into the Break Zone.

Chaos Advent will reveal the top 7 cards, and you can play one Strangers of Paradise Forward onto the field.

Quick and easy.

Only set back is that, that Forward becomes a Dark card, with the Job Chaos.

Which means you’ll need a Dark Backup that allows you to play more than one Dark card at a time.

You’ll want to play this one early enough where, Chaos Advent can stick around on the field, until needed to find a Strangers of Paradise Forward.

I’m not sure if that makes sense.

27-007H – Gulool Ja Ja

Spread out the Damage when Gulool Ja Ja deals damage to a Forward, you’ll take that damage and deal it once more to another one of your opponent’s Forwards.

You can do this once per turn, so whenever Gulool Ja Ja attacks, or blocks, or when he enters the field when you have received 5 points of damage, Gulool Ja JA deals 7000 damage to one of your opponent’s Forwards, triggering his first ability.

This is an interesting card. It might be the first with this ability unless I missed something, but I think this would have stuck.

27-008C – Gladiator

This is what a Bomb Backup would look like.

And, Gladiator can work great alongside the Bombs.

Perhaps he was training near Jachol, where he learned the technique from the Bombs.

Never the less, for 2CP you get a BAckup, that will give you 1CP once per turn, and if you decide to use Gladiator’s abilty, he will send himself to the Break Zone while dealing 2000 damage to all of your opponent’s Forwards.

I’ll be using a couple of these.

27-009C – Samurai

What do we have here?

A Backup that can break a High cost Forward. And Samurai only costs 1CP! Yeah, there is an extra cost of 3CP to use his ability, and that brings you to a total of 4CP.

The only problem you’ll have is finding the Wind CP to pay for the extra cost. There are no Wind Samurais available at the moment.

But, you can always use Princess Sarah (11-128H) for that Wind CP.

27-010L – Xande

Xande is sure tired of these Warriors of Light. And, for that reason when he enters the field, Xande will cast Silence. It’s probably SIlence. All the Forwards of a Job that you name will lose all of their abilities until the end of the turn.

And we’re not even done here.

At the begining of every Attack Phase Xande will deal 9000 damage to one of your opponent’s Forwards, then you will draw a card and discard a card. And, if you discarded a Xande, you will deal 9000 damage to one of your opponent’s Forwards.

Rinse and Repeat.

Yo-u can keep dealing 9000 damage to your opponent’s Forwards for as long as you have a Xande in your hand to discard.

27-011C – Jecht

At 6CP, Jecht is a decent play.

At Warping Speed, Jecht is even better.

For a total of 2CP, you can future proof the board, cause when Jecht enters the field, you can either deal 8000 damage to one of your opponent’s Forwards, or deal 5000 to all of your opponent’s Forwards.

You’ll choose which one you would like to use once Jecht enters the field and you see what your opponent’s board looks like.

Either way, I would say this one is worth playing.

27-012H – Zell EX

Zell is ready to hopefully take down your opponent’s Forwards as soon as he comes in!

5000 damage divided up any way you would like to any number of Forwards your opponent controls.
And, if you have 4 Final Fantasy VIII Characters on the field, that damage becomes 9000. Meaning that you’ll at least break on of your opponent’s Forwards.

At 5 points of Damage Zell gains Haste.

And, let’s now forget that this ability also comes off of an EX Burst.

Zell might be useful in my Bomb deck.

27-013L – Zeromus

Why didn’t this card get the Full Art treatment. If there was any card that deserved it it would be this one.
Zeromus AKA Zemus comes in the field and does nothing. Not until your Characters are chosen by your opponent’s abilities.

When they are, Zeromus becomes the tax man, and tells your opponent to “Pay Up”. And if they don’t they’re Summon or ability will just fizzle and nothing will happen.

And that cost is pretty high. Either 4CP or a Crystal. If they have an abundance of Crystals they’ll be good to go, if not, then Zeromus will be depleting you’re opponents resources. Their top priority will be to find a way to get rid of Zeromus, allowing you to build your board as you see fit.

How much power does Zeromus have? 8000? Maybe, just maybe, Grenade (5-008R) will become even more useful.

27-014H – Terra

Custom Art? Check.

Let’s see what else she does.

Terra enters the field and you reveal the top 2 cards of your deck. You can grab up to 2 cards. One a Fire card, and the other can be either Wind or Lightning. The cards you don’t grab are sent to the Break Zone.
So far so good, you might actually get a Free Play with Terra.

And, we’re not done yet. Whenever you cast a Wind or Lightning card, Terra can deal 8000 damage to one of your opponent’s Forwards. Terra does need to be Active for this ability to take effect.

Other than that Terra has 5000 power, but you’ll most likely keep her active to start dealing 8000 damage left and right.

27-015R – Bakool Ja Ja

Need reinforcement that will be on call?

Bakool Ja Ja is ready to help you out with that.

When he enters the field, and leaves the field, you will remove the top card of your deck from the field, and it will be on standby. Not taking up space in your hand. Just in Purgatory, waiting to see, if you will use it during this game.

Now let’s think about it for a second.

Your best bet would be if a Summon was removed from the game, a constant reminder to your opponent not to do anything stupid.

They always said two heads are better than one.

27-016C – Fire Elemental

Here’s a Monster that will do damage on the way in and on the way out.

When Fire Elemental enters the field, it’s do 5000 damage to one Forward.

When Fire Elemental is put into the Break Zone it’ll deal a Forward 8000 damage.

Not bad, but not great either.

I have a feeling we’ll be getting at least three more of these Monsters, and the other two will have a different name. And, they won’t be from Strangers of Paradise.

27-017R – Luneth

Weren’t we just talking about Warriors of Light?

Well, Xande won’t get much done with Luneth.

When Luneth enters the field, you’ll reveal the top card of your deck, and if it’s a Character, and costs under 3CP, you get to play it on to the field.

Doesn’t matter who it is. Doesn’t matter what element it is. You will play that card onto the field. What’s the chances of you hitting a target Character? Pretty good, cause you’ll be putting your deck together.
Minuet? Luneth grants Haste to all of your low cost Forwards.

Fill your deck up with cards that cost 3CP or less, and “Luneth don’t miss.”

And, this is just a Rare?

27-018C – General Leo

Here’s your Buy One Get One Free Card!

When General Leo enters the field you can play a Standard Unit from your hand on to the field. Up to 5CP. What Standard Units do you play? I’d say it depends on what you’re trying to do, but since General Leo doesn’t specify Element, you can cast any Standard Unit that you would like.

His action ability, is just a little ping of damage, but sometimes that’s all you need.

At the end of the day, General Leo has a 9K body ready to go.

Let’s see what General Leo can do. You play General Leo, Paladin (22-101C) who will play a 2CP Forward from your Break Zone. You’ll grab Sol (16-013H) pay a Crystal and play a 4CP Forward from your hand. Yuna (27-129S) is up next allowing you to play a 3CP Forward. and so forth.

So far we got 4 Forwards on the field for 5CP. 5 if you add in the one that Yuna brings in. I know it’s highly unlikely that this will happen in a game, considering your deck and RNG, but the possibilities are there. And if it finally does happen, you just pulled off the heist of the century. Or at least the heist of Opus XXVII.

21-061H – Ursula

Crystals and more Crystals.

Bring us your Crystals.

At least Ursula will give you one when she enters the field. And you can go ahead and use a Crystal to give her +3000 power. And, then you can use another Crystal and give her another +3000 power. And so on and so forth.

Or you can use that Crystal to grant your Forwards some protection from EX Bursts.

I wonder if this counts as EX Bursts that result from damage taken.

Either way, it’s still a good ability to spend a Crystal on.

21-062H – Ash

There’s a Strangers of Paradise Hero in every element. I just realized this.

Ash here, is a great supporting card. As long as you have Forwards with Brave on the field, Ash will give them a +3000 buff. I don’t think I ever thought about having a deck with only Forwards that have Brave. It might actually be a little interesting.
Anyways, Ash can grab a Character from the Break Zone when he enters the field, but only if you have a couple of SOPFFO Forwards already on the field.

And last, but not least, Ash can give another Forward Brave. And, once he gives that Forward Brave, that Forward gets the +3K buff as well.

I like this card. I might have to try it out.

21-063C – Dark Knight

This reminds me of an old card, Dark Knight (1-092C) to be exact.

Dark Knight gains +1000 power for each point of damage you have received. Which along with Enna Kros, and Ash, if you have 6 points of damage, Dark Knight will have a total of 16,000 power. But, only if you use Ash’s ability to give Dark Knight Brave.

Dark Knight also has an ability that will allow you to break a Forward. Sure, he’ll also deal you a point of damage, but, if you’re playing Dark Knight, that’s pretty much what you want. Get to 6 points of damage as fast as you can.

21-064L – Ingus EX

If you have 5 Earth Backups on the field, Ingus costs a total of 1CP.

And, after that, Ingus will search for an Earth Forward.

If you’re playing Mono-Earth you will be playing Ingus.

I mean where else can you hopefully pay 1CP for a 9k body.

And, that’s all I got.

21-065R – Onion Knight

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a card with no text.

3CP

9000 Power

Meat Shield at it’s finest.

21-066C – Guy

Guy and Ash should make a Tag Team.

Guy is a simple card, one that talk to animals. And, those animals tell Guy that he should always attack as long as Ash is on the field.

For whenever Guy attacks, he’ll gain +3000 from his ability, and another +3000 from Ash. making Guy hit hard. 11,000 power in one attack.

Not bad.

Not bad at all.

21-067R – Galuf

This is awesome, and it’s just a Rare.

Imagine that.

Galuf gives all of your low cost Forwards +2000 power. And when he enters the field, you can most likely grab a 2 cost Forward from the top 5 cards of your deck, and play it straight to the field.

Galuf costs 4CP, but you’ll probably get the 2CP back if you find a Forward.

Blade of Dawn deals one of your opponents Forwards 8000 damage.

Stick Galuf in a deck with Maria (17-128L) and you’ll be all set ready to go.

Let’s put this idea for a deck on the back burner. Along with the countless other decks I want to try and build.

21-068C – Qiqirn

Roll of the dice?

Qiqirn comes in, checks the top 5 cards of your deck and grabs a Forward from there, while the other cards go to the bottom of your deck.

After that Qiqirn is just a Backup, that had the ability to Break a dull Forward, before heading into the Break Zone.

Don’t tell me you don’t think you’ll find at least one Forward out of the top 5 cards of your deck. Worse case scenario, is that you don’t find a Forward, and you see the card you needed head back to the bottom of the deck.

21-069C – Krile

For 2CP you can discard a Summon, and deal a Forward 8000 damage.

And, after that, you can pay 2CP and grab that same Summon from the Break Zone and add it to your hand.

Recycling at it’s finest.

Krile may not help with your empty soda cans, but, she’ll love to grab some slightly used Summons.

Even Krile can’t believe how bad that one was.

21-070C – White Mage

This is a great card.

At least I think so.

And, is I think so, well then I’m going to persuade you that it is.

You play White Mage for 4CP, and then you a play a 3 cost Forward straight from the Break Zone.

It’s a POGO on a Forward. What’s POGO. Play One, Get One.

Yes, I’ll keep a foil play-set on hand.

21-071H – Titan

When are we going to get some 8bit cards.

If you’re doing a Titan from FFIII at least give us sprites.

Please?

Imagine a Mosaic with 8bit art.

Anyways, Titan simple summon. Either deal a Forward 9000 damage, or break a dull Forward.

21-072H – Tulien

Need a way to make a Forward attack or block? Tulien is here to help you with that.

During your turn you can use his ability and have a Forward attack or block.

Get rid of those pesky Forwards that have low HP and a irritating ability that you want to get rid of.

Plus, when Tulien attacks or blocks, the damage he deals goes up by 2000.

Thus, making Tulien a 3 cost Forward with 9000 power and 7000 HP.

I wonder if that’s how it works?

21-073R – Stoneserpent General Zazarg

You can throw this Serpent General in any Earth deck, and it will make that earth deck, just a little bit better. Throw in Ash as well and you’ll have a body on the field that will be tough to get rid of.

General Zazarg comes in for 2CP, if you already have 2 Earth Characters on the field.

What I like is Stoneserpent General Zazarg’s ability that triggers whenever he is dealt damage by your opponent’s Summons or abilities. What is this ability? You simply get to deal 8000 damage to any Forward.

Maybe you’ll break the Forward dealing damage, before they deal damage.

21-074L – Neo Exdeath

Standing in at 8CP and 10,000 Power.

I don’t know what’s better.

The Amano art or the ability?

Neo Exdeath is a one-sided board wipe. Neo Exdeath will come in, sacrifice to of your Backups, and remove all of your opponents Forwards and Monsters from the game.

‘Nuff said.

21-075R – Haveh

“Haveh your way!”

How is this just a Rare?

Haveh comes in and puts a cog in your opponent’s gears. By canceling power increase from your opponent’s Summons and abilities.

Plus, Haveh gives a nice buff to your Warriors, and he gains, +1000 power and Brave at 3 points of damage. Add in Ash, and your set.

You can actually just throw Haveh into that Warrior tribal deck we made a while ago.

21-076C – White Tiger l’Cie Qun’mi

First time I saw this card I thought it was Lightning, and then I realized it wasn’t. But, since Type-0 and FFXIII are somehow connected through the Fabula Nova Crystallis myth, I believe that White Tiger Qun’mi and Lightning are connected. Sure, I base this off the artwork of this card, and I’ll stop here.

4 cost Forward, with 8000 power. Just a regular Common, but it does have an ability that whenever White Tiger l’Cie Qun’mi is chosen by a Summon or ability she gains +2000 power.

And, this is where Ash comes in. I think Ash might be the best card in Earth this set.

Ash will give White Tiger l’Cie Qun’mi Brave, thus giving her +2000 power and +3000 power. Making her a Forward with 13,000 power.

That’s a big body.

21-077C – Monk

I just realized each element has the same Standard Unit Backup again.

And they all do the same thing.

Monk comes in and gives you a Crystal, and if you have less than 3 Backups on the field, you also draw a card.

And, that pretty much sums it up.

Again.

21-078C – Ram

You can actually use this Monster to buff White Tiger l’Cie Qun’mi, to grant her +5000 power.

Ram doesn’t really do much, he just come in dull, activates during your next turn, where you can use it’s ability, and after that Ram will take a nap, as it does not activate during your next active phase. You’ll have to wait an additional turn in order to use it’s ability once more.

I’d say this one is a Sleeper.

12-079R – Lich

7CP for Lich?

Yes, and you’ll be happy to pay for it. Especially if you’re running Mono-Earth. Simply because you can pay the 7CP upfront, and every time Lich is put into the Break Zone, you can discard a card and play Lich back onto the field. Yes, you can only use this ability if you have at least 7 Earth Characters on the field.

Then you’ll ask, Why would I want to pay 7CP for a 9K Forward?

That’s because every time Lich enters the field, his Enter the Field ability goes off, and you can choose one of your opponents Forwards and Break it at the end of the turn. In other words, Lich casts Doom with a tiny bit of time on the counter.

After that find a way to break Lich, discard a card and Voila, you can reuse Doom.

This is a card that will become a problem.

12-080R – Runda

Simple 2 cost Backup, that can cast some Protect, or Shell on one of your Forwards.

If one of them is being targeted by a Summon or ability that causes damage, you can dull Runda, and reduce that damage by 3000.

And, that pretty much sums Runda up.

Crystal Dominion – Fire Review

15-001R/9-002H – Ifrita

Starting off the set with a reprint?

I would too, if it’s Ifrita. Now along with the Ifrita we got in the previous set, It’ll be a lot easier to get Ifrits and Ifritas in your Break Zone.

15-002C – Sky Warrior

There’s a reason Sky Warrior is a common.

He costs too much for his abilities. Sure, you can say that he’ll pay you back for the costs if you use him to pay for CP, but I shall pass on this one.

15-003C – Sky Samurai

I would have said this card was a bust, but after playing against it, at the Prerelease, I realized I was wrong. I didn’t even put it in my deck, then I realized that it is a decent card.

Attack, Opponent Blocks, Discard a card for +2K, Break Opponents Forward.

Simple Enough.

15-004C – Edgar

Need a Backup?

If there is a way to recycle Edgar, he would have been a great card. Actually now that I think about it I know someone will know of a way to break your own Backups. And, that someone need to tell me.

But, Edgar here really shines if you’re playing a Category VI deck. That way, when you choose your Forward, you’ll also deal another Forward 7000 Damage, when you attack.

15-005R – Guy

5CP to search for a Rebel, and play it on the field. You can consider Guy as a free play if you pick a 3CP Rebel. Doesn’t even have to be Fire any element will do.

And, what better Rebel to search and play, other than Opus I Maria.

Give Guy +1K. And fill the rest of your deck with Warriors, or job Warrior. Then all you need is to cross out Guy’s name on the card and call him Swan.

15-006H – Cyan

Samurai’s getting a whole lot stronger this set.

Cyan and Tenzen will run this set. Just add as many generic Samurai cards as you can, and watch Cyan just manhandle your
opponent. By dealing a Forward 9K, every time a Samurai enters the field.

You won’t even need to play your whole hand. Just enough Samurais to wipe out your opponents Forwards.

15-007C – Samurai

Exchanging 2CP for a Crystal.

Seems like an even trade. Now to find what we’re going to use these Crystals for?

Samurai has no abilities, that consume Crystals, but there are plenty other cards that do. Samurai’s job is to give you a Crystal and then hopefully you’ll find a way to Break Samurai so you can play the your real Backups.

15-008C – Shadow EX

4CP/8K body that gives you a Crystal when Shadow is put into the Break Zone.

15-009C – Bahamut

A four cost Summon that can become a 2 cost Summon with the help of a Crystal.

Plenty of these Summons this set.

Deal a Forward 9K.

Plain and Simple.

15-010R – Vargas

The plan is to attack with a weaker Forward first. Once that Forward breaks, you will attack with Vargas and choose 1 of your opponents Forwards and make them block your next attack.

Choose wisely and you will break your opponents Forwards one by one.

Almost like Cyan, but cyan seams to be more effective.

15-011L – Palom

Now this look interesting. Palom almost looks like George from Peppa Pig. The way he’s holding that Dinosaur, I mean Dragon. But the card looks interesting as well.

George … I mean Palom here, has an ability that gets stronger after a couple of turns. Palom gains 1EXP Counter at the end of each of your turns. With each EXP Counter Palom gains 1K power.

The longer Palom remains on the field the stronger he gets. I would say that this is a great turn 1 card.

And Palom’s ability. For a total cost of 0CP, Palom can deal either 2K damage or 8K damage to one of your opponents Forwards.

Yes, Please. I’ll take 3.

15-012H – Faris

What a card.

Pirates and Vikings Unite.

Faris and Leila will have a field day with the Vikings, coming in and out and back and forth from the Break Zone and what not. It will work.

Then all you need to do is fill up your deck with a lesser value of 3CP, and give yourself multiple copies of Faris. Not just this one. All the other ones that you can find. And Spam Pirate Storm.

The Vikings will thank you.

15-013L – Firion

Have you got an extra Crystal lying around. Firion here can use it. Buff him up with Haste, First Strike and +1K Power. And, not just for this turn. Have an extra Crystal, give Firion +3K Power. But this one only lasts for 1 turn.

Other than that, there’s not much else to write about.

15-014H – Brynhildr EX

Deal 5K damage to a Forward and if you break it you win a card. Just grab it from the top of your deck.

15-015R – Bwagi

Fire, now will have a way to draw cards. As long as you have Bounty Counters on Bwagi, you’ll be able to draw a card on every turn.

15-016C – Bomb

Your Elemental Monsters are here. You know the ones that are practically the same in all elements, but different.

Bomb here, deals a Forward 5K damage, when it enters the field.

After that you can turn Bomb into a Suicide Bomber. Turn him into a Forward and no matter what happens Bomb will end up in the Break Zone.

15-017H – Machina

Why does it seem that Machina doesn’t synergize with the rest of the Class Zero Cadets? Could be the same reason I never used him in Type-0.

I can see this card being played early in the game. As soon as you’re opponent plays a couple of cards, you can unleash Machina. And, since he’ll be the only Forwards you have out at the moment. You’ll be able to start swinging, and have Brave for that matter as well.

15-018C – Sabin

These commons are getting a little bit more expensive.

But, there’s something about this Fire set with dealing 9K damage to a Forward your opponent controls. And Sabin here is no different.

At the start of every turn, yours and your opponents. You can use Sabin’s ability and deal 9K damage. Next turn another 9K.

15-019C – Josef

Simple Rebel searcher. Also works on an EX Burst.

15-020R – Rinok

Rinok enters with 2 Bounty Counters.

Now, his ability states that you need to use 1 Bounty Counter to use it, but you can remove the Bounty Counter from any character that has a Bounty Counter on them.

15-021R – General Leo

Hmm, now this is interesting. A card that disallows Summons, and Forwards must always block.

Asta La Vista Summons. So Long, Valefor. See ya Later Phoenix. Not this time Amaterasu. Ain’t going to work Diablos. After a while, Crocodile. You get the point.

Might be worth playing in any deck, just to see your opponent get angry when they can’t cast the summon to save themselves.
