Thief of all Trades

Well, I was going to write an article for each of the Legends in Opus XIV, for Card of the Week, but decided against it, as I would have jutst been pairing them back and forth with each other. I figured it out when I was about to start writing the article for Ravana, but decided against it when I was just going to pair him with Gilgamesh (FFBE).

So, I just decided to write about a card that I liked. Zidane

2CP – Wind/Water
Forward
Job : Thief
Category : IX
Hero
6000 Power

“Zidane cannot be blocked.

When Zidane deals damage to your opponent, choose up to 1 Forward. Return it to its owner’s hand.

Steal(S)(Wi): Your opponent reveals their hand. Select 1 card in their hand. Your opponent removes it from the game. You can cast it as though you owned it this turn. You an only use this ability during your turn.”

Zidane cannot be blocked. Half the time Zidane attacks will go through and you’ll get to choose 1 Forward and return it to their owner’s hand. Sometimes your opponent might use a Summon or ability. Which does not mean that Zidane will be broken.

And, Steal. Well it’s like playing Lani (12-018H), but this time both you and your opponent know what card it is. Which might give you the advantage as they might not execute their plan as they know you have an Ace up your sleeve.

I would have said just stick Zidane in a YRP deck but that would be too simple. You would be able to replace Zidane with any card and get the same effect.

But, Wind Water is the way to go.

Viking (4-133C) is a perfect choice. Whenever Zidane deals damage you can return Viking to your hand, Draw a card, and replay Viking to draw another card. Since your playing Viking, you need Leila (6-126R), just to be able to grab Viking back from the Break Zone, to be returned to hand by Zidane, to be played onto the field. And in that one turn you will have drawn 3 extra cards. 4 if you count the block on your opponents turn.

Chocobos, Zidane would be a good fit in here as well. You can return Chocobo (6-050C) to your hand, then dull Chocobo Knight (5-061C), to play Chocobo, and then play another Chocobo. Easy way to storm the field.

And of course, as always Maria (1-083H) for the +1K power. Even though Zidane can’t be blocked it’s always a good idea for extra fire power.

How would you use Zidane? Let us know in the comments.

Lord of the Mists

We’re traveling through the mists to find this Primal. I remember the Battle with Bismarck in FFXIV.

On to the card

5CP/Wind
Forward
Job – Primal
Category – XIV
Legend
9000 Power

“When a Character is returned from the field to its owner’s hand, draw 1 card. This effect will trigger only once per turn.

At the end of each of your turns, choose up to 1 Wind Character you control. Return it to its owner’s hand.

Dull 1 active Wind Forward: Choose 1 Forward. Deal it 2000 damage.”

Before we get into anything. Maria (1-083H) for the +1K, and the Standard Unit Primals from this set. Are all perfect cards to use with Bismarck.

Now, as we read the text, every time a character is returned to their owner’s hand, you get to draw 1 card. And, at the end of each of your turns you must return 1 wind Character to your hand.

That means you will be starting your turn with 6 cards instead of the usual 2. 1 that you drew at the end of each of your turns, the 2 that you returned to your hand, and the two you draw at the beginning of your turn.

Since you’ll be returning these Characters to your hand, you would like them to have abilities that trigger when they enter or leave the field. 1CP or 2CP Characters would be ideal.

Thief (1-069C) or Thief (1-070C) would be ideal. Every time they enter the field, your opponent puts the top card of their deck into the Break Zone. Rikku (2-071R) – Attack with all your Forwards, and during your Main Phase 2 play Rikku, Activate all your Forwards, and return Rikku to your hand to draw a card.

There is also Waltrill (8-047C), think about it. Waltrill is not a searcher per se, but each turn you can place 2 cards from your hand at the bottom of your deck and draw 2 cards. So, you can always discard the cards you don’t need at the moment and keep drawing till you do.

Bismarck will give you the Firepower needed to get your plan going. You’ll have the CP you need to play all the cards you need. And you’ll always have plenty of options to go with.

What do you all think?

Opus XIV – Multi-Element Review

14-119C – Ardyn

How is this just a common? At 2CP? Is it because it’s Fire/Earth?

Anyway. Ardyn here is a 7K body which comes in with 2 great abilities. You get to choose 1. Either is good. He’ll fit in good with the VII Forwards in this set.

14-120H – Tifa

If you remember from the video when they first revealed this card, we spoke about how Cloud is going to be a great card without knowing what the text was on Cloud’s card. Now that we know. Tifa and Cloud go hand in hand together. So, all you Cloud/Aerith shippers know that you are wrong. It’s Cloud/Tifa.

But, yeah. 3 of these and 3 Clouds, add a Barret and you got yourself a deck. Just throw in the rest of Avalanche and you’re good.

14-121L – Barret

It is highly unlikely that Barret will succumb to Damage, since any Damage dealt to him below 9K becomes 0. And if he is buffed up +X power, I can’t find any Forward that would be able to defeat him, save for a couple.

Now, all the AVALANCHE Operative Forwards gain Haste, and you can discard 1 card and grab an AVALANCHE Operative card from your Break Zone.

You can probably grab Tifa, which in turn will let you grab Cloud.

14-122L – Al-Cid

Al-Cid is up to his usual self here. And, buy that I mean, it’s a great card once again.

You’ll actually play 2 cards when you play Al-Cid on the field, so it’s pretty much a Buy 1 Get 1 Free. #BOGO

Other than that, depending on who enters the field you can Freeze or Dull your opponents Forwards.

14-123C – Sephiroth

Simple Sephiroth.

Simple Power.

Great ability. Second one is better than the first. Should play well with Physalis.

14-124H – Zeromus

Huh? It’s like all these new cards are great and powerful, and then you think, what do I do against this card. How am I going to block if all my cards are dull? How do I get rid of Zeromus? I’d like to see how this plays out.

Ice/Lightning FTW!

14-125L – Vaan

Activate. Activate. And play a Sky Pirate.

And then, activate some more.

14-126C – Aerith

Pick 1

A) Bounce a Forward

B) Protect a Forward

Either way, I still think Opus 1 Aerith is better. But, with all the Wind Activating going on, there might be some room for a different Aerith.

14-127H – Zidane

At 2CP this card should be a Legend.

It’s like this Zidane is Opus I and Opus III combined. And it’s only a Hero. Only a Hero

Think of the Shenanigans you can pull off with this.

Can’t be blocked. Return a Forward to their owner’s hand. Reveal your opponents hand, choose 1 card remove it, and then play it yourself.

I’ll take 3. Foils. Please let us get a Full Art.

14-128H – Prishe

From far away it looks like she’s sticking her tongue out at you.

For an extra 3CP you can play an Wind or an Earth card onto the field.

At 3 points of Damage, Prishe gains Brave and +1K. I like the other Prishe better. Which one? Not this one.

14-129H – Gessho

Another card that reveals your opponents hand, only this time you just remove 1 card from the game.

14-130H – Cloud of Darkness

Do it right, and you’ll have an 8K body played for free.Other than that just Dull and Freeze a Character when she enters the field.

FFX Custom Starter Deck

We got some news today. Final Fantasy X Custom Starter Set. Set for release in 2022. These usually come out a month before the new set comes out. Crystal Dominion is November, so “Opus XVI” (we’ll just call it that till we get the official name for it), should be coming out in February. That means this deck will be out in January 2022.

Comes with a 50 card Wind/Water deck, and another 50 cards that you would be able to change around as you see fit. 24 pre-configured Fire cards, that you’ll be able to switch out Wind or Water with. The rest of the cards will be 7 Fire, 7 Wind, 8 Water, and 4 cards will be Light and Dark. Probably 2 Light and 2 Dark.

There will be 10 new Starter cards that come in this deck, and since they are numbered, we know that “Opus XVI” will have 140 cards. But, we’re not here for that. Here’s the list.

Jecht – 16-131S Fire
Bahamut – 16-132S Fire
Braska – 16-133S Fire
Yuna – 16-134S Wind
Lulu – 16-135S Wind
Auron – 16-136S Water
Rikku – 16-137S Water
Wakka – 16-138S Water
Tidus – 16-139S Light
Sin – 16-140S Dark

Now let’s take a look at that Tidus card, real quick. Even though we won’t get it for another 4-5 months. This card is money. You’ll most likely come out ahead cost wise. You’ll be searching for a card, and depending on the FFX Forwards you have on the field, you’ll be up 2CP.

And when Tidus attacks all your Forwards gain +2K Power. I might dust off the Opus I FFX Starter deck and just add this card to it. Rikku (1-201S) will be pretty much unbeatable.

Opus XIV – Wind Review

14-039R – Adelle

The more Wind Backups you have, the better this card is. But, you don’t necessaraly need to have 5 Wind Backups as there are cards that provide the same effect. 3 should be the optimal choice as you’ll give her 8000 power and Haste. And, you only paid 2CP to play this card.

14-040C – Abquhbah

Play him early on, and he’ll usually be buffed up every turn. Other than that not much to say.

14-041C – Ixali

Activation guaranteed, with a Primal.

14-042L – Bismarck, Lord of the Mists

Return to hand. Return to hand. Return to hand.

Bismarck need to tag team with Leviathan. more on that later.

But, when a Character is returned to your or your opponents hand, you draw 1 card. And you can choose to return a card to your hand at the end of each turn.

As if Wind/Water needed more ammunition

14-043C – Cactuaroni

Just a common?

“Need some activation tactics? Cactuaroni is your macaroni. For the cost of a simple Monster Counter you can activate one Character.” /endcommercialannuncervoice

This card is great, simple and to the point. You can end up activating your whole board if you wait long enough. But, why wait if you can just find a way to grab Cactuaroni from your Break Zone.

14-044C – White Mage

Activate 2 Backups of any element other than Wind.

YRP making a comeback? Don’t call it a comeback, YRP never left.

14-045H – Sin

What would you call this? Silence? Paralyze? Stop? Probably Silence. Casts Silence on opponents Forwards. And now, they can’t use any abilities.

Probably not silence, cause that’s just Magic.

I had said the other Sin was better, but now that I’m re-reading it. This is interesting.

14-046C – Sniper

Like I said before, I’m not to sure on the wording, but if this goes off when Sniper dulls from attacking. It’s a great card card. If not, I still like it.

14-047R – Choco/Mog EX

Almost sounds like a candy bar.

The first part is easy. Having a Chocobo and a Moogle on the field when he shows up, is pretty easy too.

14-048C – Tiamat (IX)

Hmm, I’m seeing a pattern here.

“Discard one card Job Chaos and deal one forward 8000 damage. Is it worth it? I’m sure there are Summons that can do this more efficiently. But, for a common I’ll take it.”

14-049H – Typhon

I’m still waiting for a Typhon that has synergy with Ultros.

Other than that, You’re playing Mono-Wind, you’re playing this card. Plus removing a Forward and placing him in a spot where you (probably) won’t see him for a couple of turns.

This is another great card.

14-050R – Naja Salaheem

Double up on all the counters that are on any character whenever Naja deals Damage to your opponent.

+Naja cannot be chosen by your opponents Summons or abilities.

14-051C – Vanu Vanu

Don’t like the cards you just drew? Just play Vanu Vanu with those 2 cards and hopefully get something better. And if that doesn’t work, Dull and Break and hopefully you’ll get something better once again.

14-052C – Fran

You can easily cast 3 cards a turn with Wind, and all the activate your Backups and Characters and Monsters and Summons and anything else you want. Because that’s what wind does. So, you’ll probably end up drawing a card when you play Fran.

3 points of Damage +2K Power

14-053R – Mjrn

Did I mention, I like these Black & White cards?

For 2 Cp you can activate Fran and Jote.

You can also pay 3 Wind CP and Break a Forward of cost 5 or more.

14-054R – Jote EX

Just a simple searcher that searches for Fran or Mjrn. You can also search for them off of an EX Burst.

14-055C – Lezaford

Took me a second to realize this Lezaford was a Forward. I should start paying more attention.

Now, it makes sense that this is a 5 cost. At first I thought it was 5CP to play a Backup, which if the cost to play was paid with at least 3 different elements, than you can break a Forward.

I was going to say how this Lezaford is terrible and that the Opus VI Lezaford is so mucch better. But, this one is Forward and that changes everything. It can work. Someone will find a way. It’s simple if you play Light and Dark actually.

14-056R – Garuda, Lady of the Vortex

Here’s an answer to some cards. 6CP isn’t that much to pay for the on entry ability Garuda has.

Sorry, Sophie, it was fun.

Bhuni, Get out of here.

Neo-Exdeath, don’t make me laugh

Ark, No one played with you anyway.

Now, if this card was an Ex it would have been amazing.

14-057H – Rosa

Great artwork once again. You can tell apart the Amano artwork. I remember seeing a Magic card with his art on it, and recognized it immediately. But, that’s another story.

Just like we said before, activate all the Backups, if you’ve cast 3 cards this turn.

With Fran (14-052C) you’ll also draw 1 card.

All those activations will lead you into a 5th card cast this turn, which you’ll end up playing the top card of your deck. Unless it’s a Summon. Then it just goes back to the tops of your deck.
