Hidden Hope – Flooding Hope

Shop these Singles and more at our TCG Player store.

22-091C – Blue Mage

2 cost Backup that let’s you switch out a Monster for the top card of your deck.

And, if you don’t like that card that you drew, you can always, pay a CP, discard that card, and put Blue Mage in the Break Zone, to play that Monster that you discard earlier onto the field.

Yes, the card that you discard, needs to be a Water card.

Or, you can just use that ability to grab a Monster, that you ran out of.

more, like a Backup, Backup plan.

22-092C – Agrias

You can’t go wrong with 1CP.

Not this time. Agrias comes on in and if you have a Couple of Knights on the field you get to send one of your opponent’s Forwards that cost 3CP or less back to their hand. Making them pay the CP once again to get that card out.

And when you have received 3 points of damage, Agrias gains 4000 power, making her a 7k body that you paid for with 1 whole Crystal Point.

I’d say the only thing wrong with this card is that the cards name is Agrias.

22-093R – Anima (X)

Easy way to get rid of one of your opponent’s Forwards, Anima comes in and you remove the Forward from the game. No certain cost, no active, no dull it doesn’t matter. Any forward will do. And for 3CP that is a steal.

But, you’ll also have your opponent draw a card.

And if you only paid with Backups, you’ll also get to draw a card.

I think I’m on the fence with this one.

Some might like this one, some might not. Let’s see what happens.

22-094C – Vaan

Pirates and Vikings just keep getting stronger.

Vaan here, is just a Common, but adds quite a punch, or should we say blast. A Shotgun Blast.

For 2CP, and a couple more Pirates that are already on the field, you get to choose one of your opponent’s Forwards and reduce their power by 8000. Usually that is more than enough to break a Forward.

If it’s not enough, well it’ll be close to enough.

Can’t go wrong with this one. 2CP with 5000 power.

I have yet to play with the Pirates, but it is on my to-do list.

I just need to find the time to do it.

22-095H – Warrior of Light

Warrior of Light, 4 cost Hero that allows you to search for a Standard Unit.

And, then you will play that Standard Unit, and another 3 Standard Units, and you shall find that all of your Forwards gain +2000 power, except Warrior of Light. Add in a bunch of Backups and Forwards that will buff up your Standard Units, and you’ll be running an army of Standard Forwards that will take out anybody and anyone out. Send them straight to the Break Zone.

And, Shield of Light. If all else fails, you can give +5000 power to Warrior of Light giving him a 13,000 body.

Bring in the Drones!

22-096C – Clavat

Last of the 1 0f 6 Backups that are in every element.

Top card, take a look, leave or put it at the bottom of your deck.

They should have renamed these cards Fortune Teller. Or have had Cait Sith. Or Yuna, Rikku and Paine in their Psychic dress-sphere.

I don’t know just trying to take up space here.

22-097L – Curilla

This is the card that everybody wanted to try out. Hidden Hope came out and well let’s take a look at it. It’s only been a month or two before we got to it.

Well as you can see from the first line, there is a good reason that Knights are becoming a force to be reckoned with. I just took a look at a recent Qualifier, and Curilla was in 3 of the top 8 decks.

Curilla come in and you can take a look at the top 5 cards of your deck and play 2 Knights onto the field as long as their combined cost is 4CP or less.

And as long as Curilla is on the field, she also gives protection to all Knights from damage that is less than their power. Making Ping damage worthless against your Knights.

But, then again you can always just play Minwu (1-171H) and get the same effect, but for all of your Forwards, not just the Knights.

Imagine that?

22-098H – Siren (V)

“Are you a Gamblin’ man, Sandy?”

If so, you can save your Forwards, if they are chosen by your opponent’s Summons or abilities. Simply Wager the top card of your deck, if it’s not a Forward your Forwards are saved. If it is, you lose that top card.

Clavat, is a good way to determine if you should use the ability.

And, at 3 points of damage, whenever Siren is dealt damage, you can reduce that damage by 1000.

I’d say this is worth a shot.

22-099R – Severo

A 3 cost Backup that will return one of your opponent’s Forwards back to their hand, and Severo will also give you a Crystal for your troubles.

After that Severo just hangs out on the field, producing 1CP per turn as a Backup.

And, if needed you can pay the cost of 3 Water CP, 2CP of any color, dull Severo and put him in the Break Zone to place a Forward of your choosing back at the bottom of it’s owner’s deck.

Seems like a high cost for this, but it might be helpful.

22-100R – Chime

If you got the Backups for this, Chime is a great play.

Draw a card at the end of each of your turns, will help your turns become that much better.

Chime should be the 5th Backup you play as to get a better return with her.

No need to have Chime on the field if you don’t have 5 Backups, as the only reason to play Chime will be to draw that extra card at the end of the turn.

Your board should get bigger than your opponent’s and faster than your opponent’s board.

I’ll take it, I’ll take 3 actually and play it in a Ultros/Pirates deck with a handful of Vikings.

22-101C – Paladin

Now that’s a Standard Unit I can stand behind. The Paladin, a great meat shield if you ask me. And, this meat shield also has a shield.

For 5CP, you get a Forward with Brave and a 7K body, that grabs a 2 cost Forward from the Break Zone and plays it onto the field.

It’s 2 for the price of one.

Yes, you need a couple of Standard Unit Backups on the field for you to be able to use this ability, but that shouldn’t be that hard to do.

22-102C – Piranha

For the price of a Piranha, I shall grant you a card.

Sure, you’ll need 3 points of damage.

Sure, you’ll also need to put Piranha in to the Break Zone.

But, at the end of the day, Piranha shall double the CP used to pay for it.

And, when Piranha enters the field, you will choose a Forward and have it lose 2000 power.

It’s 1CP, it’s worth a shot.

22-103C – Faris

I don’t know if you’d play this Faris over the other Faris, but you can easily break one of your opponent’s Forwards, while drawing a card at the same time.

How do you do that?

It’s quite simple really.

You’ll play Faris, and you’ll choose to remove a Viking, either Viking (2-132C) or Viking (4-133C). Once that Viking is removed, your opponent will choose one of their Forwards and put them in the Break Zone, while you get to draw a card once your Viking leaves the field.

22-104R – Folka

We’re looking at 3 points of damage. Anything less and I’d say it wouldn’t be worth it to play Folka.

Well you could, or you can just remove Folka from the game, and your opponent will only be able to attack once this turn.
Now at 3 points of damage, like we said earlier, Folka becomes nearly unstoppable, when you are on the attacking side. In other words, during your turn.

Folka can’t be chosen by Summons or abilities, and if she is dealt damage, it becomes 0.

All this for 3CP.

You can try throwing a couple into your deck, if you got room for it.

22-105H – Miwa

Coming in with the Back Attack, Miwa is a safety net when you have Summons and abilities that will attack your whole front line.

And, at 5 points of Damage, Miwa will also give all of your Forwards a +2000 power buff.

And at only 2CP, you can not go wrong with that. Just throw in Miwa into any Water deck. If you have no room in your deck, well then you better make some room.

She’ll stick around as a 5k body, where you can just have her block to break herself, and then play another Miwa during your opponents next turn.

22-106R – Yuna

This card is actually called the Tidus Best Bang for your CP special.

We’ll go with the Tidus (16-116L), popular card, and a lot of people should still be playing it, because I don’t see why you wouldn’t.

Let’s start out by playing Yuna onto the field for 2CP, produced by a Water Summon. Then we’ll play Tidus for 1CP, and grab that Water Summon from the Break Zone.

For 1CP, you have 2 Forwards on the field, one of which can not be blocked and extremely hard to break.

I’m sure there are better Yunas to play, but if you’re just looking for a cheaper Tidus, look no further.

22-107C – Yuni

Sap!

Cast Sap! or Attack Down or both.

Yuni can do that for you. And the effects will last just until the end of the turn. It’s 4000 power when Yuni comes in, and 2000 power every time Yuni dulls to cast her ability.

3CP/7k body, Not much else is going on here.

22-108H – Lenna

Warrior of Lights … Warriors of Light Unite!

If you ever needed a reason to play Warrior of Light (19-128L), well this isn’t it, but Lenna will help. A little.

If you have to elements already on the field, Lenna will allow you to draw a card when she enters.

And, if you have 4 different elements, Lenna will cause your opponent to place one of his Forwards into the Break Zone.

I’ll leave you with some words of wisdom.

There is no reason to play Lenna in a Mono-Water deck.

Hokuten – Version 1.02

We’re going to do this a tiny bit different. We already know we’re not building and strong decks. We’re just making decks to have fun with. Zalbaag’s deck will be no different. In fact we’re going to look straight into Final Fantasy Tactics and see what we can come up with. Let’s take a look into the battles.

But, first.

We can’t have a Hokuten Deck without the Lord Commander himself, so we are throwing in 3 copies.

First battle Zalbaag commands Argath (or Algus) to kill Tietra, so we need Argath in. 3 copies because Argath makes your opponent discard a card when he enters the field.

Along with a couple Knights and Black Mages, although the Tactics Knights aren’t great at all. Just bodies that have no abilities. And the Black Mages, are just a little better than the Knights. Maybe we’ll just lave them out.

The next battle Zalbaag is in he is your ally, So, we’ll be adding in Ramza. Two of them to be exact Ramza (3-119L) just for the fact that he gains +1000 power for every Final Fantasy Tactics Forward that you control, and Ramza (7-118L), because he can become a cheap and powerful Forward if you have a lot of Forwards on the field before you play him. And, If this Ramza has over 10,000 power, every time he attacks, you can break one of your opponents Forwards, as long as it is 3CP or less.

Next battle Zalbaag is a part of the Undead. and fights against you with Archaeodaemon and Ultima Demon and we have none of those Monsters as cards yet. I thought this was going to be a lot more interesting than this.

Let’s see what else we can add? How about Dycedarg (4-105R), he is Zalbaag’s brother and do work together. Up until a certain point, I’ll leave that at that. Plus when he enters the Break Zone, he Dycedarg deals 7000 damage to one of your opponents active Forwards.

Next let’s find a way to search for Zalbaag. Aldo (10-086C) allows you to search for a Lightning Forward, and Duke Goltana (1-134R) allows you to search for a Knight. And, since Ramza and Dycedarg are both Knights, I think we finally have a plan for this deck.

Knights it is.

So, we need Ovelia (1-156C) to give all of our knights +1000 power. We’ll also add in Class Sixth Moogle (9-097C) to help us pay for Water. Now that we have water on hand, We shall add Beatrix (12-103H) to lower the cost of our Knights.

Agrias, we need Agrias (7-106L). She costs 6CP but with Beatrix it’ll be 4CP and if you find a 3CP Character it’ll be 1CP.

We’re going to add Princess Sarah (11-128H) just so we can play Argath. We’d take Argath out, but he plays a part in Zalbaag’s story.

That means we have Ice, let’s add some more Ice. Lasswell (16-042R) to dull and Freeze, and have your opponent discard cards. Charlotte (13-023R) cause she is a great Meat Shield.

As for Summons, we’ll take Ixion (17-090R), Leviathan (2-140C) and Shiva (19-022R)

And, there you have it Hokuten V1.02

Forwards

3x – Argath (1-033C)
3x – Beatrix (12-103H)
3x – Charlotte (13-023R)
3x – Lasswell (16-042R)
3x – Zalbaag (1-136C)
3x – Ramza (3-119L)
3x – Dycedarg (4-105R)
3x – Ramza (5-118L)
3x – Agrias (7-106L)

Backups

3x – Princess Sarah (11-128H)
3x – Ovelia (1-156C)
3x – Class Sixth Moogle (9-097C)
3x – Duke Goltanna (1-134R)
3x – Aldo (10-086C)

Summons

3x – Leviathan (2-140C)
3x – Ixion (17-090R)
2x – Shiva (19-022R)

This one does seem a little forced, compared to other deck ideas we have done.

Emissaries of Light – Opinion on Ice

16-022R – Erwin

Wasn’t I just talking about discard?

Actually I’ve been talking about discard since Physalis came out.

But, Erwin here also comes with 4 or more Job Morze’s Soiree Member stipulation. And this is the second one we’ve seen.

I’m more interested in what other cards I shall find.

16-023H – Agrias

This is one Knight I can stand behind.

I’m guessing you’ll already be playing FFT/Knights or some sort, making Agrias a 2CP/8K Forward that gains a Crystal every time she attacks.

I’ll take 3 please.

16-024H – Vincent

How about a way to stop your opponents Backups from activating?

Vincent here has got your Back(up), dulled up and not being able to activate. Which is a pretty good deal if you ask me. And, that’s not even taking into account his S ability. Making Vincent near invincible to all Damage.

16-025C – Bard

Another card that you can place on the field, until you need to use his ability. Then you return to hand and replay it, to put Bard into the Break Zone and make your opponent discard 2 cards from their hand.

16-026L – Cloud of Darkness

Removal of the Crystal kind.

Cloud of Darkness + 2 Crystals = 1 Forward removed from game to the 2nd power. Make any sense?

And +2K at 3 points of Damage.

Looks like too much math over here. Is there a Full Art of this card?

16-027C – Black Waltz 1

Same as Black Waltz 2.

“There’s more to this card than just the Beautiful (yes, a capitol B) artwork.

Black Waltz 1 can work wonders all by himself.

Black Waltz 1 discards Black Waltz 1 from your hand. And you deal 4000 Damage for discarding Black Waltz 1 from your hand, and 7000 Damage to a dull Forward when you discard a Job Black Mage from your hand.

You’re either Breaking 1 or 2 Forwards with this ability.”

Well, almost the same.

16-028C – Shiva

Break a dull Forward.

Depending on what you’re playing your opponent will discard a card from their hand. Sometimes. Not all the time.

Meh.

16-029R – Shelke

This card should have been WoFF/VII. Would have made more sense.

I think I like this card. Works just like Meltigemini (8-128R), but Shelke only works in your favor.

There’s something else I wanted to say, but I must have forgotten. Something about Vincent, but I went and looked at that card again and couldn’t remember what it was.

And, don’t forget about Countertek.

16-030L – Shantotto

Shantotto is now Ice??? What has this game come to?!?

This is a great card. Shantotto still does what Shantotto does.

If you’re playing a discard deck, you’re already ahead as you’ll end up paying only 1CP for Shantotto and you’ll grab a card from the Break Zone. Technically they’re paying you to cast Shantotto. If that’s not enough well then, that’s all Shantotto does.

Unless you decide not to play Shantotto and just remove her from the game from your hand, and You’ll dull all your opponents Forwards.

That is all.

16-031R – Scarlet

Scarlet took her sweet time to appear in FFTCG. Only 16 sets.

Interesting.

1CP and dull Scarlet for a Development Counter. Choose 1. Next turn 1CP and dull. Choose 2. And so on and so forth.
The longer Scarlet stays on the field, the harder time your opponent will have getting anything done.

Is Shinra about to become a threat?

Yes, I did base that off of just one card.

16-032H – Serah

You’re playing a XIII deck with Ice? Hmm, just grab the XIII starter set and your set. Either one will do, and throw Serah in there.

That’s the easy way out.

Decent card though. Your opponent discard a card, and you draw a card.

But, what I really want to know is … Are we gonna get a new Fang?

16-033C – Celes

Hmm, Celes is taking Jihl Nabaat’s duties. But, for Backups.

Ice is getting good cards.

16-034C – DG Sniper

If you got 2 DG Snipers you can Break a Forward when the second one enters the field.

That is if you have some Crystals stashed away.

16-035C – YKT-63

YKT-63 can play well with DG Sniper.

That way you’ll only need 1 DG Sniper instead of 2.

YKT-63 is also a little cheaper to play.

16-036C – Devout

Simply play this card for the Crystal, and to have your opponent discard 1 card.

16-037R – Babus

This one is a fun card.

Instead of you choosing what this card does, your opponent gets to choose whatever he would like inflicted on him.
I mean, I’d play it just to have them decide on what they get to do. Or not do.

16-038H – Byblos

We talked about Byblos last month, but now you also get to see all the cards that will play well with Byblos that just came out this set.

It seems like every other Ice card stated, “Your opponent discards 1 card.”

Lots of Ammo, for Byblos in this set.

16-039C – Heavy Armored Soldier EX

Here we go, search for a Standard Unit, or more specifically DG Sniper.

5CP is quite high for a search, but you can also search for a Standard Unit off an EX Burst.

16-40R – Mustadio

A free card to play during your opponents turn after you made your opponent discard a card from there hand.
Or even during your own turn. I’m sure you already have plenty of cards in your hand that will cause your opponent to
discard a card from their hand.

Dull a Character when Mustadio enters the field, and gain a Crystal when he is put into the Break Zone.

16-041C – Yunalesca

Play Yunalesca to discard a card, to make your opponent discard a card, to play Mustadio.

I’m sure there’s a better use for this.

16-042R – Lasswell

How is this just a Rare?

I would have made Lasswell a Hero.

Every time a Knight enters the field, Dull and Freeze 1 Character?

And at the end of your turns if Knight attacks your opponent discards a card.

All this for only 2CP. 5000 power is easily fixed by Ovelia (1-156C) and Duke Larg (1-057R)

Garland, to the Future

Here we are, starting our Opus XIV Weekly, Card of the Week. First off none other than Garland himself. Better be careful we don’t step into a time loop.

On to the card

4CP/Fire
Forward
Job : Knight
Category – I
8000 Power
Legend

“If Garland is dealt damage by a Summon or an ability, the damage becomes 0 instead.

When a Backup is put from the field into the Break Zone, draw 1 card.

Flare (S)(D): Choose 1 Forward. Break it. Then, your opponent selects 1 Backup they control. Put it into the Break Zone.”

Garland has Protection from the get go, as he can not be damaged by Summons or abilities. Which is a plus. The only way to get rid of him without him blocking or getting blocked is by cards that will outright Break him.

Now anytime a Backup is put into the Break Zone for any reason, you get to draw 1 card. Yours or your opponents.

And, Flare. For another Garland and a dull. You can Break an opponent and make your opponent put a Backup into the
Break Zone. Now as we said in the Fire Review we did, you can Break your own Forwards if you’d like. Oelde Leonis, you can then grab a Standard Unit from the Break Zone, and draw one card.

You can probably play Fire/Water Knights.

Add Gawain (12-126R) who will search for Garland when he is played on the field. And he’ll also search for a Water Knight. Agrias, Beatrix, and Steiner all have multiple versions you can play. Agrias (13-086R) is a great one which works well with Opus XIII Ovelia. Beatrix (12-103H) Will keep giving +2K to all your Forwards when she or a Knight enters the field. Plus she reduces the cost of all your Knights by 2 but, only once per turn. And, Steiner, we’ll go with Opus IV. Cause, why not?

Posted on Leave a comment

Opus XIII – Water Review

13-086R – Agrias EX

This card was made to be played with Ovelia (13-090L). Of course, you can play any other Princess for the EX Burst, but Ovelia is the one that you’ll be able to keep bringing Agrias back from the Break Zone

13-087C – Delusory Knight

Just your regular 4CP/8K that also searches for a Manikin of a different element.

13-088H – Elle

Discard 2 cards when you attack to get a free shot? We like Cheap … I mean free shots at Damage. Unless your opponent can find a way to get rid of Elle, you’ll have the match in 7 turns or less.

Considering you have enough cards not to run out.

13-089C – Oilboyle

Draw 1/Discard 1 all for 1CP. Becomes a Forward like the other Monsters from the other elements.

13-090L – Ovelia

How many Tactics forwards are there that are good? Agrias (13-086R), which will let you draw a card everytime she comes in? Marach (13-080C), to Ping 4K damage when he comes back in? Ramza (13-121R) to break 2 forwards your opponent controls and 2 more to their hand? Orlandeau (4-101H) to break a Damaged Forward? Delita (13-111C), to Break Marach and have him come back in for another 4K?

Wait a second. You can Play Marach, Ping for 4K. Use Aegis on Marach. Have him attack, hopefully he gets blocked and Breaks. And then he comes back to the field, dull and deals another 4K to your opponent. It might just work. If it doesn’t play Delita and break Marach.

13-091H – Cagnazzo

It should be pretty easy to get 3 Water Counters on Cagnazzo. 7 might be a little difficult, considering the 4K body. But, if he can stick around long enough, you’ll be able to get a board wipe.

13-092C – Sage

Flip cards until either an Earth or a Lightning card pops up. End of story.

13-093H – Sara

Searching for Royalty. Check

Searching for Ovelia. Check

Add to hand. Check

Hopefully you’re playing a Tactics Deck. No? Not to worry there’s plenty of cards Sara can search for.

13-094C – Simon

Here’s another card you’ll like to have on hand. Can bring back any Tactics character back from the Break Zone.

13-095C – Tonogiri

Doesn’t have to be your opponents Forward. You can return one of your own cards to replay it for it’s on entry ability.

13-096R – Nichol

+1K to all Multi-Element Forwards, plus you get to draw a card when one enters. Sign me up.

13-097C – Viking

Why would it say of cost 3 or less, if the most expensive card is 3CP. Must mean that there will be more Viking support coming. We shall finally build a deck to rival Chocobos.

But enough of that. If you’re playing all 4 Vikings 3 copies of each. That’s 12 cards. 12 divided by 50 means that you have a 25% chance for any of those cards to be a Viking, that you’ll play on the field.

13-098R – Fina

Easy way to return a pesky Forward to your opponents hand.

13-099C – Yuke

Always a good idea to be able to grab a Character from your Break Zone. Wether you’re only playing one copy of a certain card. Or you ran out of cards to cast that Special ability.

This one will see some play. If I find a deck to put it in.

13-100R – Leviathan EX

Save a Forward with this Summon. Reduce Damage by 5000. And If you’re at 5 Damage you can Protect all your Forwards from Summons and Abilities. This one will save you at least a couple of times. Especially if you’re playing against Dadaluma and Cactuars. Oh, wait Dadaluma is banned.

13-101R – Luka

+1K to all Brave Exvius Forwards. These are cards that I always like to play, give your Forwards a little boost.

13-102C – Refia

Need to Activate a Forward? Just use this ability. Only costs 1CP and Dull this Backup. Would have been better if it was any Forward, but this will work.
