22-109H – Eden

Oh wow.

Eden can be a free play.

And, will be if you play your cards right.

You’ll just need to grab all of the Final Fantasy VIII Characters and put them in a deck, which shouldn’t be too hard, considering, all the FFVIII Characters are starting to play well together. And, once you have 8 Category VIII Characters on the field, Eden will become a free play.

Eden is a Summon that 99.99% of the time will break 2 Forwards. Dividing 30,000 damage between to Forwards should be quite easy.

If you’re playing a FFVIII themed deck, you are playing Eden.

22-110L – Citra

Let’s see.

Are you looking to get the most of your Summons?

Citra is here to help, for whenever you cast a Summon, you get to choose one of your opponent’s Forwards and it will lose 2000 power until the end of the turn.

And, that’s not all, cause it never is. Not for Legends.

When Citra comes into the field, you will remove 5 cards from your Break Zone, and when those cards are all of the same element, you can search for a 3 cost Summon, remove it from the game and cast it right away. Getting the Summon to go off, plus Citra’s ability because that Summon was cast.

If you’re playing a Summon heavy deck, you can’t go wrong with Citra.

22-111L – Raegen

Raegen plays like Citra, but different.

Raegen comes in and, you will remove 4 cards from your Break Zone. If there are 4 elements removed from the game, you can search for a Forward of 4CP or less and play it onto the field. Once that Forward hits the field, Raegen’s first ability comes into play. You may choose 1 Forward your opponents controls, and dull it.

That ability is triggered every time a Forward enters your field. 6CP is a decent price for a card that will keep on giving.

I’d say throw Raegen into a Warriors of Light deck, and you’ll be set to go. Maybe even Warriors of Darkness.

Hidden Trials

We have just received word of a new set coming out.

Opus XXIII, Opus 23 or Hidden Trials. Call it whatever you’d like.
And we are excited!

Lightning graces the Booster Box with original artwork. And it sure is looking good. We can already guess on which card will have the Golden Signat … wait, … I don’t believe there is a Golden Signature. It just mentions a Special Card with an original illustration. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

We do get to see some of the cards, and I can tell you Lightning and Queen just look amazing.

We’re getting a new Tyro as well. This time Tyro is representing Wind, we’ll see how well he does in his new element. It also mentions that Final Fantasy Record Keeper will be a “Featured Title” so, I’m expecting at the very least a bunch of Record Keeper Standard Units, and Maybe just maybe, we’ll get the pixel art cards I’ve been wanting for a long, long time. You heard it here first. January, 11th 2024.

Legacy cards are back. Lightning (15-041L), Rydia (15-083L) and Refia (19-102L). I don’t get why they are just grabbing cards from newer sets, I believe that since they are named Legacy cards they should have come from older sets. At least 10 sets.

But, what do I know.

And with that I’ll just leave the press release here.

Hidden Trials will elevate the ‘Limit Break’ mechanic to new heights thanks to custom-themed cards that can turn the tide of battle, revolutionising the deck-building experience for players.

For the collectors, this Opus will include a very rare, Special Card [23-037R] showcasing an original illustration of FINAL FANTASY XIII Lightning by Miki Yamashita. Additionally, three beloved Legacy cards, Lightning [15-041L], Rydia [15-083L], and Refia [19-102L], are included.

As per tradition, renowned artists have contributed stunning new art pieces to bring the characters to life:

Mihoko Ishii, FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE

Yuya Ishihata, FINAL FANTASY IX

21-121L – Warrior of Light

If this works as planned, you get to play Warrior of Light for 1CP, if not well, then you paid 7CP. Even if you find just one 3 cost Forward in the top 5 cards of your deck, then Warrior of Light is a decent play.

Other than that, Ultimate Shield is a great ability to counter your opponent’s Summons and abilities. Meaning that Warrior of Light and the 3 cost Forwards you control cannot be targeted by your opponent’s Summons or abilities.

You’ll want to have plenty of Warrior of Light cards in your deck to make use of this ability whenever the need rises.

PS. Really love the art. But, that goes without saying.

21-122H – Skyserpent General Rughadjeen

We’ve seen all the other Serpent Generals, and now it’s time for the final Serpent General. Skyserpent General Rughadjeen, who does not need to be played with any Serpent Generals.

For 4CP you get a 9000 powered Forward with Haste, First Strike and Brave.

And, if that’s not enough, every time the Skyserpent General attacks, you can choose a Forward, give them +1K and Haste, choose one Forward give them +1K and First Strike, and choose one Forward give them +1K and Brave.

It does not say that you have to choose 3 different Forward, you can grant all of these ?upgrades? to one Forward if you’d like.

I’ll take 3 of these, and put General Rughadjeen into my all Haste deck.

21-123H – Darkness Manifest

This card looks good, even without paying with a reduced cost. Sure you can remove a Fire, Wind, Earth and Water Character and pay only 2CP, but that would mean you’re playing a 4 colored deck. Which might be hard to navigate. Although I have seen it done right.

All Darkness Manifest needs to do is stay on the field, and he will slowly chip away at your opponent. Once per turn during the beginning of Main Phase 1, Darkness Manifest will deal your opponent 1 point of Damage.

And, if he ends up leaving the field, you choose one Character, and you can send it to the Break Zone.

Now, all we need to figure out, is how to send Darkness Manifest in and out of the field, without losing him.

21-124L – Jack Garland

Jack Garland is Garland.

Period.

Well that is his last name isn’t it?

3CP/9k body with Brave.

You can just stop there, and you’d have a decent card.

But, this is a Legend.

Jack enters the field and allows you to search for a Strangers of Paradise card, add it to your hand. After that Jack has an action ability that allows you to Break a Dark Character of your choice, at the cost of 1 point of damage.

This is one of those abilities that can be very useful, when playing against an opponent that has multiple Dark cards on the field. The rules state that you can only have 1 Dark Character on the field at any time, but there are a couple of cards that allow you to have more. Break that Dark Character. It’ll either be Chaos or Spiritus. But either way, you get rid of them, and your opponent will have to chuck all the Dark Characters from the field except for 1.

Enter the Zero World

This one should be interesting, but we have an idea. Maybe it’ll work, maybe it won’t. There’s only one way to find out.
First things first we need to bring out Necron, and base the whole deck around the fact that Necron can deal a point of Damage at the end of each of your turns, as long as there are at least 3 Dark Characters on the field.

Next we need a way to grab Necron. Ysayle (6-022R) and Laguna (9-037C) are both great cards that allow you to search for Necron when they enter the field.

Let’s get to some Dark Cards, to make use of Necron’s ability. Spiritus is at the top of the list, as we’re actually going to grab 2 different Spiritus. Spiritus (6-129H) and Spiritus (13-104L). 3 copies of each as they both allow you to search for a Dark Forward.

The Emperor (1-185H) because he is able to recycle himself, if he gets broken. That way you’ll still have the same amount of Dark Characters on the field, as he comes back into play dull.

Twintania (16-130H) and Vinera Fennes (17-129H) both are cheap Dark Forwards. And, since most of the cards we’re playing are high cost we do need a couple of the cheaper ones to keep us balanced.

We’re going to go right ahead and add Garland (IX) (8-026L), cause it still is a great card. And, it needs to be used more often. Plus dulling and Freezing a card every turn is great.

We need more Backups.

Devout (1-048C), Always a decent card to have, as you can grab a Forward from the Break Zone and play it to the field. You can’t grab Necron, but you can grab plenty of Dark Forwards that might already be in your Break Zone.

Rinoa (2-048R), we’ll grab her, to search for Laguna, to search for Necron.

Cid (WOFF) (4-034R), This is a great choice for the Character that turns into a Dark Character. As Cid (WoFF) cannot be broken. And, it’s only 2CP.

Let’s add Chocobo Eater (19-027R) and Flan (19-031C) cause this deck looks like it can use a couple of Monsters. Flan pretty much regenerates, and Chocobo Eater can remove a Forward.

Mateus, the Corrupt (5-044C) that way you can Attack with a Dark Forward, without worrying about it being blocked, and possibly sent to the Break Zone.

Zalera (9-025H) to break a Dull Forward, and Shiva (19-022R) just because it is a Free Summon!

Forwards

3x – Spiritus (13-104L)
3x – (Twintania (16-130H)
3x – Vinera Fennes ((17-129H)
3x – Garland (IX)(8-026L)
3x – The Emperor (1-185H)
3x – Laguna (9-037C)
3x – Necron (12-021R)

Backups

3x – Cid (WOFF) (4-034R)
3x – Rinoa (2-048R)
3x – Devout (1-048C)
3x – Ysayle – (6-022R)
3x – Spiritus – (6-129H)

Summons

3x – Mateus, the Corrupt (5-044C)
3x – Zalera (9-025H)
2x – Shiva (19-022R)

Monsters

3x – Chocobo Eater (19-027R)
3x – Flan (19-031C)

Plan of attack is to bring out Necron, and get your 3 Dark Characters on the field. Just Find a way to keep those Dark Characters on the field, and you’ll slowly watch your opponent’s Damage rack up until he gets 7 points of Damage.

It’s a waiting game.

Job Title : Necron

Necron, the Necron

5CP – Ice
Forward
Necron
Rare

“You can play 2 or more Dark Characters onto the field.

When Necron enters the field, choose 1 Character other than Necron you control. Its Element becomes Dark. (This effect does not end at the end of the turn.)

At the end of each of your turns, if you control 3 or more Dark Characters, Necron deals your opponent 1 point of damage.”
Now this is an unusual card, in that Necron can deal Damage to your opponent simply by doing nothing. Just load up on Dark Characters and sit it out. Just make sure you have at least 3 Dark Characters on the field at the end of each of your turns, and you’ll be dealing a point of Damage to your opponent.

Even though Necron is pretty much a standalone Character, with no alliances, Necron does side with the Dark, as all he does is want to destroy the Crystal.

Best plan would be to side Necron with all the Dark cards that you can. Hey, you might finally make that All Dark, … well mostly Dark Deck that you always wanted.
