25-018C – Gimme Cat

I’m trying to figure out if Gimme Cat is worth playing.

You discard a card so your opponent is forced to discard a card.

Right? Yes.

So, why wouldn’t you just play a Forward or a Backup that will force your opponent to discard a card?

Maybe I’m just not seeing it.

But, you can also just pay 1 Ice CP and put Gimme Cat in the Break Zone, and your opponent will discard a card at random.
I think there’s better options.

25-019C – Necron

This is a little trick play, and you only need Necron to do it.

For 4CP, you can play Necron on to the field, and as long as he is on the field, you will grab one of your opponent’s Forwards. 5CP or less, and remove it from the game.

Now, your plan would be to try and keep Necron on the field, until your next turn. Or you can just find a way to give him Haste.

Next turn, If Necron is still on the board, you will use his ability and send the Removed Forward to the Break Zone. Thus breaking the Forward.

After all is said and done, Necron sticks around as an 8K body.

25-020R – Gippal

We’re getting ready for a Final Fantasy X comeback.

Gippal is reporting for duty.

YRP is coming back, along with Opus XVI Tidus, and that is pretty much all you’ll need.
Gippal gives all of your FFX Characters +2000 power and they cannot be chosen by your opponent’s abilities. That’s half the battle right there.

Gippal will also dull and freeze one of your opponent’s Forwards.

Yes, that last part is just a little bit extra.

I’ll take 3. Full Arts if possible.

25-021R – Chimera Brain

This ain’t a Monster, it’s a Forward that acts like a Monster to get out of sticky situations.
Once per turn if your opponent has any dull Forwards, you can turn Chimera Brain into a Forward and have it attack with 9000 power.

Once Chimera Brain attacks, you will choose one of your opponent’s Forwards and Freeze it.

Which Forward will you choose to Freeze?

The one that’s already dull, that way it won’t activate on the next turn and Chimera Brain can turn into a Forward once again.

You get all this for 3CP. It costs 1CP for each head.

25-022C – Edward

You got 2 ways to get Edward’s abilities to activate. And they both depend on how many cards your opponent has in their hand.

If they have 1 or less, you choose 2 of your opponent’s Forwards and hit them with a Dull/Freeze.

If they have 3 or more, your opponent discards a card from their hand.

One thing is for certain. You won’t be playing Edward if your opponent has 2 cards in their hand.

For a Common this is pretty decent.

25-023C – Kurasame EX

The Instructor turned Forward with his pet Tonberry.

Kurasame comes in and you will flip the top 4 cards of your deck and add a Forward to your hand. The rest will go to the bottom of your deck.

You might say that 6CP is a bit high, but you do get a 9K Meat Shield after that.

And, we already know you won’t be paying 6CP for Kurasame, you’ll be Warping him in for 2CP. You’ll have to wait a turn, but it’s well worth it.

Let’s not forget this ability also comes off of an EX Burst.

25-024H – Zeid

They’ll have a hard time trying to get rid of Zeid.

Whenever Zeid is dealt damage by a Character, be it Backup, Forward or Monster, your opponent will choose one of their dull Characters and place them in the Break Zone.

At 5CP, for an 8K body, Zeid will be able to hold his own against any attacker. And, if you need extra firepower, you can remove 3 ice cards from your Break Zone and give Zeid +3000 power.

Zeid looks like he’ll always be one step ahead, and always breaking dull Characters.
Zeid can also come in with Back Attack.

25-025L – Sephiroth

Now this is a card that will make SOLDIER thrive this set.

Young Sephiroth comes in at 4CP, and gives all the SOLDIERs, besides himself, First Strike.

Why doesn’t he give himself First Strike, you ask?

Well, he already has First Strike, no need to double up on it.

And whenever another Forward with First Strike attacks, your opponent will discard a card. They’ll have an empty hand in no time.

We also have Astral Gate, which will deal a Forward 5000 damage.

This is simple, straight to the point, and something we can all get behind.

25-026C – SOLDIER Candidate

All these SOLDIER Candidates are all Commons, and they are all good cards. Especially since they all work together.

This SOLDIER Candidate is no different.

SOLDIER Candidate comes in and dulls one of your opponent’s Characters, and if you already have a SOLDIER Candidate in your Break Zone you can go ahead and Freeze that Character as well.

And, if you have received 3 points of damage, SOLDIER Candidate gains +3000 power.
That will give you an 8k body for 2CP.

These candidates, are on their way to becoming SOLDIER, and they are just one card away from becoming a great deck.

25-027H – Chadley

Chadley doing scientific research.

Chadley comes in for 2CP, and even though he doesn’t do anything when he enters the field, he will start doing research behind the scenes.

He’ll see what happens to your Forwards during your opponent’s turn, and every time one of your Forwards is sent to the Break Zone, Chadley will gain 1 Research Counter.

When you have 3 Research Counters, Chadley will grab a Forward from your Break Zone and play it onto the field. Yes, the cost of that Forward must be 4CP or less, but we’re pretty sure you’ll have some of those Forwards in your Break Zone.

This is an easy way to bring in a Forward of a different element as you don’t have to worry about paying the cost for that Forward.

I’m sure we’ll have some interesting plays with Chadley.

25-028C – Paladin

You have 2 options, either Dull a Forward, or draw a card.

And that’s what you get for 3CP.

Depending on your situation both options are decent.

If you’re playing this early draw a card.

If your opponent has a Forward on the field that can cause block one of your attackers, dull it.

Good thing is that you can play more than 1 copy.

25-029R – Nooj EX

I remember Nooj, a lot more than I do Gippal or Baralai.

And, that’s all right because Nooj will search for one or the other.

And, if that’s not enough for you, Nooj can also deal 5K damage to all of your opponent’s dull Forwards.

This is where Paladin comes in. You play 3 of them back to back, and Nooj will deal all three of them 5000 damage.

Hopefully you’ll break some.

And, since we know that things don’t always go as planned, Nooj’s first ability also comes off of an EX Burst.

25-030H – Mateus, the Corrupt

Weren’t we just talking about this? Finding ways to get rid of Backups?

If we didn’t earlier, I know we did in past sets.

And, this is what Mateus, the Corrupt does.

You can remove one of your Backups from the game to reduce Mateus, the Corrupt’s cost by 2CP.

Once, you cast Mateus, she’ll Break a dull Forward, and Dull/Freeze another one.

Then you can cast another Mateus, and repeat the cycle, until you run out of Mateus.

Plus, the artwork by Ryoma Ito is amazing as well.

25-031C – Borghen

Borghen’s looking at you like, do you really want to play this card?

You might.

Borghen does one thing and he can do it twice.

Deal a dull Forward 8000 damage.

Once when he comes in, and once when you decide to put him in the Break Zone.

If you can Break a card on the way in, and another on the way out, I’d say this is a good play.

25-032C – Maenad

Did you ever want a way to recycle your Monsters?

Maenad is here to do just that.

Most of the time, your Monsters will be sent to the Break Zone, in order to activate their abilities. Maenad will be able to bring a Monster back at the end of every turn. As long as that Monster was put in the Break Zone on the same turn.

For 5CP this is a bargain, even at 5CP, you’ll be bringing back a Monster left and right.

Now, how to incorporate Maenad into my Bomb deck?

25-033R – Yuna

Half Black Mage, Half Gullwings, All Yuna!

Yuna comes right in and let’s you search for one of the Gullwings.

Now, I was on the fence of her second ability, thinking why would someone use this ability to play a Gullwing from their hand when you can just play the Gullwing from your hand without using the ability?

Then I realized, that you can play this card whenever you’d like. And, you don’t need the element of said Gullwing to play it. Meaning you can splash any color Gullwing and not worry about paying the cost.

Last but not least, we have Blizzara. Choose a Forward Dull/Freeze it, and then your opponent discards a card from their hand.

Effective.

25-034L – Lenne

We haven’t seen Lenne in quite some time. Well the Songstress is back, and she is interesting.

Once you go into your Attack Phase, you’ll be able to remove the top card of your deck from the game, and then you’ll be able to cast it. If you don’t cast it, well, then you’ll lose the card.

You can also remove Lenne from the game, and then remove a Summon from the game, then you can cast that Summon whenever you would like.

I’m kind of mixed on this card.

Let’s just wait to see it in action.

Tears of the Fire Planet

Buy these cards and more at our TCG Player Store!

25-001C – Armstrong

What a way to start the set, the first appearance of Armstrong in Final Fantasy TCG. You can consider this the Rookie Card.
Armstrong is a Monster with a strong arm, and he’ll use that arm to deal damage to your opponent’s Forwards.

Once per turn, you can use a Fire Card as Ammo for Armstrong. Each shot will deal 5000 damage to one of your opponent’s Forwards.

And, if you run out of Ammo, you can always just use Armstrong a deal a Forward 7000 damage.

It’s a decent Monster, I’d like to try it out. Hopefully at Prerelease.

25-002C – Iron Eater

I remember trying to build a Warrior deck a while ago, and Iron Eater would have fit right in.

At 3CP, this 8k body doubles as the perfect Meat Shield. Meat Shields are useful. Very useful as they block your opponent’s attacks.

You’ll only be playing Iron Eater if you are already playing Warriors. And, if you already have at least 5 Warriors in your Break Zone.

You’ll like to try and break Iron Eater, just so you can play him again.

25-003C – AVALANCHE Member

For 2CP you get a Forward with 5000 power.

And, when AVALANCHE Member enters the field you can discard a Final Fantasy VII Character, and AVALANCHE Member wil deal a Forward 7000 damage.

It’s like AVALANCHE Member is throwing the FFVII Character to it’s target.

It looks like we’re getting a whole bunch of FFVII Standard Units.

Might be time to get some no name VII decks going.

25-004H – Ifrit

Do you remember, how we keep mentioning that we need ways to remove Backups?

Well, here is another way.

We all know that there are certain Backups, well a lot of Backups that come in and after the ability goes off, you have no more use for them. Ifrit is here to take care of that.

You can remove one of your Fire Backups from the game, in order to reduce Ifrit’s cost by 2CP.

When Ifrit does come in, Ifrit deals 9000 damage to one Forward and 4000 damage to another.

I’d probably just be using this card to recycle my Backups, the damage is just an extra bonus.

And, since you’re playing Ifrit, might as well add Ifrita 9-002H to your deck

25-005H – Ace

I don’t get how this Ace is just a Hero.

You can get Ace down from 6CP to 0CP, just by having Class Zero Cadets, and Fire Characters on the field. The gives you a Free 8K Forward that is ready to deal damage left and right. And, that includes your opponent. Cause if your opponent has less than 5 points of damage, Ace will deal them one point of damage at the end of each of your turns.

I’d say it’s worth paying the 6CP at the start of the game. Then your opponent will be trying to get rid of him before he does too much damage.

And, Jackpot Shot. Ace will deal 2000 damage to a Forward for every Class Zero Cadet and Fire Character that you have on the field.

Cadets are on Fire!

25-006L – Cloud

Of course Cloud is going to be OP!

5CP to play Cloud, and you can say that, that is a great deal, for what you will get in return.

Cloud has 5 abilities, and you get to choose 2 of them when he enters the field.

Deal a Forward 8000 damage. Break a Monster. Remove 2 cards from your opponent’s Break Zone and draw a card. Play a 4 cost or less FFVII Character from your hand onto the field.

You can not go wrong here.

Worse case scenario, you Break a Monster ,and draw a card.

Best case?

You start a Combo going that will fill up your front lines. And, that’s where the ball starts rolling into an AVALANCHE.

25-007R – Glenn

8CP to play Glenn! 8CP?

8CP for 8K power.

Is that worth it? Yes, you should read the whole card before you decide.

Glenn comes in and you can search for not 1, but 2 SOLDIERS and add them to your hand. That brings hid cost down to 4CP and that alone would make the cost well worth paying for.

But, Glenn’s not done yet.

You can then play 2 SOLDIERS of 2CP or less from your hand, straight to the field. And that technically makes Glenn a Free Play!

And, who doesn’t like Free Plays?

And, after all of that, you still have a Meat Shield on the field.

25-008C – Security Officer

Security Officer ready to check your badge when you come to the door.

For 3CP you can draw a card.

Or you can deal 5000 damage to one of your opponent’s Forwards.

You can choose either one.

Or you can choose to play another card.

This would have been a better card if it’s cost was 2CP, and you can play it off of Glenn.

25-009C – Sice

This is what I would call a throwaway card.

I’m not saying that cause I think it’s bad.

I’m saying it because, once you have 5 Cadets on the field, Sice will come in with Haste and deal 3000 damage to one of your opponent’s Forwards.

And, then when she attacks, she’ll deal another 3000 damage to one of your opponent’s Forwards.

She’ll probably get blocked and be sent to the Break Zone, but you already dealt 6000 damage to a Forward. I’d say that’s 1CP well spent.

25-010H – Salamander (III)

3CP plus an extra cost.

And, that extra cost is why you will be playing Salamander. For an extra 5CP, or 2 Crystals, you will be able to deal 9000 damage to 2 of your opponent’s Forwards.

We’ll go with Crystals, because we spent 8CP on Glenn earlier.

The good thing about Salamander’s ability is that it can go off every time that Salamander attacks. All you need to do is find your Crystal Generator, and start stockpiling those Crystals. If you can do that and have 2 Crystals available when Salamander is about to attack, your opponent will have a hard time trying to keep his front line filled.

If you would have asked me, which you didn’t, I would have had some type of Priming going on with Gutsco and Salamander.

25-011C – Deuce

Yes, … well are you playing Cadets?

If you are then Deuce will be of use to you.

When she enters the field, you’ll look at the top 4 cards of your deck, and if there is a Class Zero Cadet there, you can add them to your hand.

What? You’re not playing Cadets?

Then what are you reading this for?

Move Along.

25-012C – Trey

Class Zero reporting for duty!

Even as a Common, Trey will deal enough damage to break a Forward. 2000 x all the Class Zero Cadets that you control. And, if you’re playing Cadets, you’ll most likely have a board full of them by the time you decide to play Trey.

After that, you’ll probably just want to have Trey block a bunch of high-powered Forwards, just so you can play him again.

I’m thinking it’s time to build a new and improved Cadets deck.

25-013C – Palom

The child prodigy returns, but this time there’s nothing special going on.

This time Palom comes as a Backup, which he usually does stay on the back line, since his spells will cause the same amount of damage, whether he is on the front lines or the back lines.

I’ve gone off topic, but you get the picture.

Palom has 2 abilities, one deals 3000 damage, and the other 7000 damage.

And, that’s about it.

25-014L – Volker

We were just talking about Warriors.

Volker here, will be the glue that holds it all together.

At 7CP Volker’s cost might seem a little steep, but look at what you’re getting.

Volker enters the field, and you will search for 2 Warriors. Ok so far so good. That just brought Volker’s cost down by 4CP, thus making him a 3 cost Legend. But, we’re not done yet.

The Next Warrior that you play will have their cost reduced by 3CP. And, that makes Volker a Free Play.

Might we suggest that you grab and play Iron Eater. And then you’ll also be dealing some damage to one of your opponent’s Forwards.

But wait, there’s more!

Any time one of your Warriors gets sent to the Break Zone you will choose one of your opponent’s Forwards and deal it 4000 damage.

Add all this to a 8K body and you have one hell of a Legend.

I’ll take it!

25-015R – Hell House

First Armstrong and now Hell House. We’re building a neighborhood here on the front lines. Or is it the sidelines? Either way the front yard is where your Forwards will be ready to protect you.

Hell House comes in as a Monster, but once per turn Hell House can become a Forward with 7000 power.

At 3 points of damage, whenever Hell House attacks, it will deal 3000 damage to all of your opponents Forwards.

At 5 points of damage, Hell House will deal 5000 points of damage to your opponent’s Forwards whenever it attacks.

Just throw this into any Fire deck, and you’ll do good.

25-016R – Rubicante EX

Now this is interesting. I know that Golbez was spoiled with all of the Archfiends, and if the rest are like Rubicante, I can tell that Golbez and Co. are going to be fun to play. Against them will be a different story.

Rubicante comes in and does nothing. But, whenever Golbez attacks, you can choose a Forward and deal it 8000 damage.
And, let’s take some Final Fantasy IV elements into the TCG by giving Rubicante the ability to be immune to certain elements at certain points. That point is whenever you’d like, as you can just pay the cost of 2CP, one Fire one any color, and Rubicante will not be dealt damage by abilities of that Element.

At 4CP, you get an 8K body that will keep attacking with Golbez.

Oh, and the first ability comes off of an EX Burst as well.

25-017R – Red XIII

At 1CP, any card is worth a shot. At least once.

Red XIII enters the field and gives one of your Forwards +3000 power.

After that, Red XIII is good to block an attack.

You can also play Red XIII from the Break Zone. But, only during your Main Phase, and only if you have at least 2 Final Fantasy VII Forwards on the field.

If for any reason Red XIII leaves the field, he will be removed from the game instead.

Like I said, it’s 1CP. You can try it out and see if it works for you.

Hidden Legends of Ice

24-019R – Umaro

I don’t see why anyone would play Umaro on to the field, when his ability goes into play when Umaro is in your hand.
For 3CP you can discard Umaro from your hand a break a dull Forward.

That’s it. Plain and Simple.

I mean you can play Umaro on to the field for 2CP, but that’s about it. He’ll just stay on the field producing 1CP per turn.

I’d say Umaro is more like a 3 cost Summon, and he should be treated as such.

24-020C – Ulmia

Can you here the Harps playing your song?

Ulmia is ready to Freeze one of your opponent’s Characters.

And if you got another Final Fantasy XI Forward on the field, Ulmia will make your opponent discard a card.

Ulmia will make Anselmo proud.

“Walk on home, boy!”

Maybe she can take Dime’s spot. Put some Distortion on that Harp.

24-021H – Kurasame

Deja vu?

I think we’ve seen this one before.

This time Kurasame is a Hero though, instead of a Legend.

Kurasame comes in and Freezes your opponent’s Characters. How Many? Depends on how many Backups you have on the field.

And depending on if your opponent has at least 4 dull Characters on the field, Kurasame will draw you a card every time he attacks.

You can run this one and the Hidden Hope Kurasame, and you’ll have 6 Kurasames that will Freeze your opponent’s Characters.

24-022H – Gogo

Gogo is back!

And s/he is better than ever.

Whatever FFVI Deck you’re playing, just throw Gogo into your deck. 3 copies will be perfect.

First line of attack, play Gogo, and protect Gogo at all costs.

Why?

Gogo casts Reraise on one FFVI Forward once per turn.

If a Final Fantasy VI Forward is put into the Break Zone, once per turn Gogo will bring them back!

If that’s not a great card, I don’t know what is.

24-023C – G Deleter

A backup that causes a splash.

Why a splash?

Because G Deleter is Ice splashing in Water.

G Deleter comes in and you draw a card, and if you have 4 Ice Backups, you can dull and Freeze one of your opponent’s Characters.

Not bad for 3CP, and you get 2CP back once he enters the field.

24-024R – Shiva (XVI)

Shiva comes in and you can Break 2 dull Forwards.

And at the end of each of your turns if 2 or more of your opponent’s Forwards are sent to the Break Zone, your opponent discards a card.

You get all of this and a Forward with 9000 power.

You’ll probably just want to Prime into Shiva instead of paying the 7CP.

24-025L – Genesis

First off the card is awesome. The art, the abilities and that we’ll finally have a great card to start off a SOLDIER deck.

Genesis comes right in for 5CP. Yeah, it’s your standard 5CP for a 9k body, but you get to choose from 1 of 3 abilities.

Have your opponent discard a card, choose 2 Characters to Dull and Freeze, or have your next SOLDIER’s cost be 3CP less.

The best part is that, you can choose more than once. Every time a SOLDIER enters the field one of Genesis’s abilities will
trigger, allowing you to choose which one you would like to do.

You should keep a playset of Genesis until Tears of the Planet comes out, that way you can use it in a Ice/Lightning deck with that Zack card that was spoiled for the next set.

24-026H – Zalera, the Death Seraph

4CP to break a Forward.

Not bad, when you consider that Summons that break Forwards come in at a high cost.

Zalera does hit a little different. You just choose the cost of the Forward. 4 or less, or 5 or more. After that your opponent will choose which Forward to break.

I wouldn’t say that this is a great card, it is good card, it’s just the chance of using it and getting what you want out of this Summon is slim.

Unless they only have 1 Forward that is 5CP or more, then you’ll know that you’ll hit your target.

24-027C – Shantotto

Shantotto coming in with a trombone, and I’m ready to crack a joke about rust. But, I’ll keep my mouth shut this time.

Shantotto reduces the cost of casting your Summons by 1, add Opus I Yuna to the mix, and all of your Summons cost will be reduced by 2.

And, that’s not all. Shantotto has the ability to Dull/Freeze a Forward if you have already cast a Summon this turn.

If I was a heavy Summon player, I would be playing a Yuna/Shantotto Combo.

24-028R – Jill

Lots of cost reducing in this set.

Jill is no different.

Jill’s cost is reduced by 2 if Clive or Torgal is on the field.

That means for 1CP you can Dull/Freeze one of your opponent’s Forwards, and you’re still left with a 7K body.

After that, you can Prime into Shiva (XVI) and break 2 dull Forwards.

I think we’ll have to see Priming in action before I get excited about it.

24-029C – Squall

Squall acting like he’s Opus IV Viking.

Getting things done when he enters the field and when he leaves the field.

Squall won’t draw you a card, but he will deal a dull Forward 5000 damage. Which can be more than enough to Break it.

And, let’s not forget Rough Divide, which gives Squall +1000 power and First Strike.

And it’s only 3CP!

Given Squall’s 8000 power, it would normally have been 4CP.

This is a decent Common to have.

24-030C – Terra

Theatrhythm is going strong in this set.

Terra comes in and grabs a Summon from the Break Zone.

This also comes off of an EX Burst.

You can then cast that Summon for one less Crystal Point with Shantotto.

After that Terra sticks around as a 5K body, ready to block. Or, attack.

24-031R – Torgal

Well here is the main card of your Final Fantasy XVI engine.

Torgal, the Wolf.

I don’t know much about Torgal, except for the fact that most of your FFXVI Forwards can be paid with CP from any element. This includes Priming costs as well.

Being a Backup, it is a little harder to have Torgal sent to the Break Zone, but, there are a couple of cards that can break Backups, but I think Torgal will be just fine.

This will be played.

And, it’s only 2CP.

24-032R – Piscodaemon

Why do I always go to write Psycho Demon when I’m trying to write Piscodaemon?

2 cost Monster that can be sent to the Break Zone when one of your Forwards attack.

And when Piscodaemon is put in the Break Zone, you can choose 2 Characters and Dull/Freeze them.

After that in your Main Phase 2, you can bring in Shiva (XVI) and break those 2 dull Characters. If they’re Forwards. Not Backups.

“Psycho Demon, Qu’est-ce que c’est?”

24-033L – Bhunivelze

Bhunivelze is back. It’s been a long wait since Crystal Radiance to get a new Bhunivelze card.

I can see this card being played in a Monster deck, especially if all those Monsters have effects that go off when the Monsters are sent into the Break Zone.

And, for every Monster or Forward that you’ll put in the Break Zone, your opponent will choose 1 Forward they control and send it to the Break Zone.

Mass Extinction going on here.

This could be Game Over for your opponent.

After all is said and done, you’ll still have a body with 10,000 power.

Just in case your opponent survives the onslaught.

24-034C – Velis EX

Well, this confirms it.

Warriors of the Crystal will be a thing here.

At least for a month or 2, just so everybody can try it out.

All you need is some Crystals to be able to bring in all the Warriors of the Crystal into play without worrying about color fixing.

Let’s talk about Velis now.

Whenever Velis or a WotC (imagine that) comes indull and Freeze one of your opponent’s Forwards.

It will be a bunch of abilities going off at the same time.

I believe it’ll be fun.

24-035C – Mateus (XII RW) EX

2 cost Summon.

2 choices.

Which one will you pick.

Break a dull Forward that costs 3CP or less.

Or.

Dull a Forward, Draw a Card.

Choice is yours.

Ex Burst as well.

24-036C – Nu Mou

Nu Mou, just chilling in your back line until an Ice Forward enters your field.

After that you can put Nu Mou into the Break Zone, and you can Dull and Freeze one of your opponent’s Forwards.

It seems like all the Ice cards were Dull and Freeze and dull and Freeze some more.

But that’s what Ice does.

Now you have more cards to choose from.

Hidden Hope – Take It To the Limit

Shop for these Singles and more at our TCG Player shop.

22-112R – Zach LB

Zach out first Limit Break card, and I can’t say it’s anything special.

Zach comes in and deals a Forward 3000 damage.

Not much of a Limit Break per se.

Zach will stick around on the field as a body, So, 3CP isn’t terrible, but I’m sure there are better things to do.

22-133L – Mont Leonis LB

Now, this is more like it.

Even though I never liked Mont as a character, this is a card I would play.

Now, this will only work if you have 5 Fire Backups on the field when you bring Mont in.

For 8CP, you can grab a 3cost Forward and a 5 cost Forward from your Break Zone and play them straight to the field. They will both come in with Haste as well.

It still is a lot to pay, but you do get a lot in value from it.

8CP, 3LB points, and a Backup that you control.

As a last ditch effort, I will say that it can work. I mean that’s what Limit Breaks are supposed to be. Huge attacks, when you’re on your last legs.

22-114H – Viktora LB

Not bad.

I guess I’ll need to actually play a game with these Limit Break cards. Finding time is the problem.

Viktora needs, a discard deck around her, and you don’t need me to tell you that.

Luckily, Ice has the tools you’ll need to make Viktora a great play. Just like a Dragoon getting ready to Jump.

If your opponent has 2 cards or less in there hand, when Viktora enters the field, you get to choose a Forward and deal it 7000 damage.

And, if your opponent has no cards, Viktora gains +3000 power.

Much better than Zack.

22-115R – Serjes LB

Serjes, the lancer.

Now this was a decent Character in War of the Visions.

And, that is what this card is as well. Decent. Not great, not bad.

When Serjes enters the field, you can either Dull or Freeze a Forward.

And, then he’ll stick around as an extra body on your front line.

22-116L – Ace LB

Ace is looking like he will be a powerful card. Once Ace enters the field, Ace deals 1000 damage to all of your opponents Forwards. Just think for a second of what Ace can do if you’re playing Chocobos.

And, that’s not all cause when Ace attacks, you can reveal the top card of your deck, and if it’s a Wind card, which it will be if you’re playing Chocobos, you’ll add it to your hand.

Sure, Ace costs 8CP, but you’ll probably get that CP back, with the extra cards you’ll be drawing.

22-117R – Yuri LB

Yuri comes right in, and searches for Chelinka and Yuri brings Chelinka straight to the field. That way we’re bringing Yuri’s cost down a little bit. Sure, there are only 2 Chelinkas that you can choose, because her cost needs to be 2CP or less.

You’ll most likely be playing Chelinka (22-046R), and if you have another Crystal Chronicles Character on the field, Chelinka will give Yuri Haste, and you’ll be able to attack with Yuri right away.

Las, but not least, if you have 5 Backups on the field, Yuri also gains +4000 power, making him an 8K body.

22-118H – Shantotto LB

Shantotto, going back to her roots.

Shantotto comes in and breaks all the Forwards and all the Monsters. Every last one of them except for Shantotto herself.

If you’re in a pickle, go ahead and cast this Mage. 4CP + 7LB. That’s all of the rest of the cards in your Limit Break deck. Last ditch effort to save yourself.

If you’re just looking to get rid of all of the Forwards, just play Opus I Shantotto instead.

Or you can have both in your deck and use whichever one works better for you.

22-119R – Maat LB

Maat comes right in and gives all of your Forwards +1000 power and Brave.

That might be enough to finish the game for you, and if you end up striking out, at least you’ll still have Forwards that will be able to block.

Maat comes in with Brave himself.

This is a Limit Break card that I would gladly add to my deck.

22-120H – Cloud LB

Of course, we have cloud in the first set of Limit Break cards, what’s next Lightning?

Cloud comes in and Breaks a Forward, 3CP or less. After that Cloud will stick around with an 8K body, wheeling and dealing damage to your opponent.

And if you’re feeling a little CP rich, you can use Limit Burst.

For 4 Lightning CP and a Cloud card, you can Break one of your opponent’s Forwards and also deal your opponent 1 point of damage as well.

Do that 7 times and you won the game.

It’s possible.

22-121R – Lightning LB

Well, I was right. Lightning was next.

And when she enters the field, she will look for a Lightning summon.

And that is about it.

You’d think they’d have Lightning do something better.

22-122L – Tidus LB

I’m trying to think if this is worth it.

If you don’t pay 3CP does that mean you can’t choose any of these effects?

8CP, to Send a Forward to the bottom of it’s owner’s deck, a Backup to the top of it’s owner’s deck and draw 2 cards.

I can’t think of a reason to play this card, but I know I’ve already sold a few of them, so someone thinks that it’s a good play.

22-123R – Leo LB

Would you like to draw a card?

Well there’s better ways to get yourself to draw a card than Leo.

Only difference is that you can play Leo at any moment, because you already know that you can just grab him from the Limit Break deck.

Still, Leo will probably just be used to pay for other Limit Breaks.

Like Maat.

22-124H – Little Leela LB

This is a better Limit Break card.

Better than most of the cards we’ve seen in this set.

Little Leela comes in at 5CP with an 8k body.

You’ll say so what, nothing special about that.

And, I’ll say yes, but whenever Little Leela attacks, you will choose one of your opponent’s Forward and it will lose 7000 power until the end of the turn.

Now that makes it better. Better than Leo, better than Zack, better than Yuri, and I hate to say it but, better than Lightning.

Hidden Hope : Frozen Hope

22-019C – Ice Bomb

I Need More Bombs!

And, this one is pretty good on my opinion.

During your turn, Ice Bomb becomes a Forward, and whenever it attacks, you can Freeze one of your opponents Forwards.
And, if you already have received 3 points of damage, Ice Bomb will also Dull that Forward, thus making said Forward unavailable for your opponent’s next turn.

I’ll take 3, and put them in the Bomb deck.

22-020R – Vallaide

Who would have thought that Green Mages have these kind of abilities. And, what is a Green Mage anyway? I thought they were Red Mages.

Whatever it is Vallaide has a pass, because he’ll kick some …

It’s true. Just use his ability on a Forward, and whenever that forward is dealt damage, it breaks. Just like that.

Sure, you’ll need another way to deal a little bit of damage to said Forward, but that should be easy enough to figure out.

22-021R – Emina

This is what everyone likes. A Backup that searches for a card.

Sure, the card needs to be an Ice Character that costs 2CP or less, and I’m sure there are plenty of good cards to grab.

This technically makes Emina a 2 cost Backup as well.

Search and Play.

22-022R – Quistis

Do you remember Opus I Jihl Nabaat?

Well Quistis here, does a much better job than what Jihl Nabaat did.

Of course you’ll have to be playing a FFVIII themed deck, but with a card like this, and plenty of other great FFVIII cards that won’t be hard to do.

Now, what does Quistis do?

Depending on how many FFVIII Forwards you have on the field, you can dull that many of your opponent’s Characters. And if you have 3 or more, you’ll also Freeze them.

And, the artwork? It looks great. Can’t go wrong with a good looking card with a great ability.

22-023C – Bard

Bard, a low cost Backup that will dull a low cast Forward.

And, if you have another Bard (22-023C) on the field, you can use Bard’s other ability and Break that Forward.

Is it worth the price?

Depends on what you’re Breaking.

You can’t go wrong with a 2 cost Backup, that has a couple of decent abilities. Unless your opponent isn’t playing low cost Forwards. Then you might be out of luck.

22-024L – Kurasame

At 7CP, Kurasame is a quite expensive, but he can be worth it depending on how many Ice Backups you have on the field when Kurasame enters.

Go ahead count your Backups.

I’ll wait.

5 Ice Backups, well that is perfect. You shall either Dull and Freeze, 5 of your opponents Characters. Backups? Forwards? Monsters? Yep. Yep and yep.

Or, you can have your opponent discard a card for each Ice Backup that you have.

We said 5, right?

Well your opponent is discarding 5 cards from their hand. And, what was that card that was just released in the Anniversary Collection Set 2024? I don’t have the card in front of me, but I think it said, deal 5000 damage to a Forward every time your opponent discards a card, due to your Summons or abilities.

Now, at that point I’d say it’s very well worth playing Kurasame, as it will put you in a winning position. If you can’t beat your opponent when you made them discard their hand and laid waste to their front line, I think it’s time for you to pick up another game.

I like it.

22-025C – Cloud of Darkness

This is a decent card, for a Common.

Cloud of Darkness comes in, and since you’ll already be playing Discard because you’re already playing Ice, your job will be to have your opponent have as little cards as possible in their hand before you play Cloud of Darkness. Cause when Cloud of Darkness comes in and your opponent has only 2 cards, or less, in their hand, they will send one of their Forwards into the Break Zone.

And, that is pretty much it.

22-026C – Seymour EX

Almost like a Summon. Seymour comes in and breaks a dull Character.

After that Seymour will just hang out on the field producing a single Ice CP once per turn.

Good thing is that this ability can come off of an EX Burst as well.

Now, where did I put that card that gets rid of my Backups.

22-027R – Shiva

Let’s talk about Ice.

It’s so cold, that it will make all of your abilities stop working. Nothing moves, and your opponent’s Characters reset to 0.

No Haste, No First Strike, No Brave, no buffs no nothing.

Plus you get to draw a card if you only paid the cost with your Backups.

The twins are your best bet at starting a frozen empire.

22-028H – Cissnei

The Turks just got a little bit better with Cissnei.

She might not look like much, but in a Turk heavy deck, she’ll be lying in the shadows waiting to attack. And she can attack twice.

Sure, Cissnei comes in dull, but she also comes in with Haste. All you need to do is activate her and she’s ready to go. Luckily, The Turks are here to give a helping hand. (And you thought that they were the bad guys.) Every time a Member of the Turks attacks, you will activate Cissnei.

Here is the battle plan, Cissnei comes in, Reno attacks, Cissnei activates, Cissnei attacks, Rude Attacks, Cissnei activate and attacks again.

For 2CP, you get a 6K body that dual wields Shurikens.

I’ll take it.

22-029R – Jihl Nabaat EX

It’s Jihl, but which Jihl will you like to play?

Is PSICOM going to become a great deck to play? Who will be in it? How many PSICOM cards are there? Why are there so many questions?

After looking up all of PSICOM there are a total of 3 Characters with that Job, One which is Jihl Nabaat. The other 2 are Rygdea and Yaag Rosch.

“Who you gonna call?”

Not the Ghostbusters, that’s for sure. You can flip a coin and see which one you’ll get.

But, at 3CP you get a Forward with 7000 Power, and you get to search for a member of PSICOM.

I’m guessing they’ll be adding more PSICOM members in the next set, Especially since Lightning is on the box.

22-030C – Shinryu Celestia

This is nice, a decent 2 cost Backup that will give one of your Forwards +4000 power.

Sure, you can only use this ability if you have 5 Backups on the field, but you should be trying to get to 5 Backups as soon as you can. Because Backups equals more CP.

Now, if you can find a way to activate Shinryu Celestia after she used her ability, then you can use it again, giving another Forward, or the same Forward, another +4000 power.

22-031H – Squall

How is Squall just a Hero?

Because he is a Hero. Just play Final Fantasy VIII to see why.

At 4CP/8000 Power, Squall becomes even more powerful, if you have 4 FFVIII Characters on the field. Not only that, but he is protected from your opponent’s abilities that deal damage.

And if you need to get more Final Fantasy VIII Characters on the field, Squall will help you with that as well. During the beginning of each of your Attack Phases, you will be able to play a Final Fantasy VIII Forward from your hand onto the field. Just as long as that Forward costs 4CP or less.

You can get the four Final Fantasy VIII Forward on the field, by the beginning of your next turn, If you play Squall right away. After that, it’ll be easy sailing.

22-032L – Sephiroth

The card that everyone is looking for. Not the one you see, but the one with the Gold Stamped Signature. It is a good looking card.

Now, lets talk about the card itself.

At 3CP with 7000 power, you would think that this card is undeserving of the Legend status. Well, we’re here to tell you that it is. And, that we can see why Squall is just a Hero.

Whenever Sephiroth is in your hand, you can pay 3CP and break one of your opponent’s dull Forwards. Which in itself is a great ability to have. Although you’ll have to remove Sephiroth from the game.

But, that doesn’t mean that Sephiroth is lost, he just went into the Lifestream like he usually does. Once he is in the Lifestream, and only during the turn that he entered the Lifestream, you may play Sephiroth onto the field for his cost. And, once Sephiroth enters the field, your opponent will discard a card from their hand.

Sephiroth will cost you a total of 6CP to play this way. There are a couple of Summons that will Break a dull Forward. One is Titan (21-071H) who will break a dull Forward for 3CP, and Hades (6-038R) who will break it, and have your opponent discard a card from their hand for 5CP. The difference is that Sephiroth stays on the field as a body.

22-033C – Time Mage

Time Mage is a simple 2 cost Standard Unit Backup that is actually pretty good.

Time Mage enters the field, and will Dull/Freeze a Forward, and if you have one more Standard Unit Backup on the field, Time Mage will Dull/Freeze a Character as well.

If you have 3 of these in your hand you can Dull/Freeze up to 6 Characters, and at 2CP each, it will only cost you 6CP or 1P per Character.

That sounds like a steal to me.

22-034H – Medusa

We finally have a new spell. Stone has arrived to Final Fantasy TCG. They’re just calling them Petrification Counters.

Medusa comes in and casts Stone on a Forward. Once that Forward has turned to stone, they cannot attack or block. And they will not be able to turn back to normal once Medusa is gone.

Nope, they will have to use a Gold Needle, and the price for that Gold Needle is 5CP.

This will put a cog in your opponents plans.

22-035C – Yuke

Simple, basic and straight to the point.

Yuke comes in for 1CP and allows you to look at the top card of your deck. If you like it you can keep it there. If not send it to the bottom of your deck.

It does have plenty of benefits.

Depending on what you see there, your game plan will change for this turn.

Do you see an EX Burst that will cause plenty of damage to your opponent. Leave it there and take a point of Damage. Do you see the card you need to put your plan into motion, play that card that allows you to draw a card.

Worst case is that you don’t like the card, and you can just recycle it to the bottom.

22-036C – Rinoa

Final Fantasy VIII, has had some great cards showing up. And, we still haven’t had a Starter Set made for 8.

Good thing is that, we already have plenty of cards to make a great deck. Is Rinoa a good card to add?

Probably not. There are far better Rinoas in other sets, so, I don’t really see you playing this one, unless you’re playing a Discard deck. Or, you just like the art and you’ll just throw it in your FFVIII deck, just to show off with the Full Art. I know I’ve done that before.

If Squall is already on the field when you play Rinoa, her cost goes down to 2CP from 3CP, which makes this card more affordable, and her ability forces your opponent to discard 2 cards.
